The Stop AAPI Hate Initiative reported nearly 3,800 anti-Asian hate incidents in the United States from March 2020 to February 2021; 70% of these incidents are against Asian women (Jeung et al., 2021).

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA) Senate stands with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community during this difficult time.

As your senators, it is our responsibility to ensure that students’ voices are amplified and heard and issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion are addressed properly. We do not tolerate the hatred, violence, and bias against the AAPI community on campus and beyond.

We would like to reiterate and emphasize the University of Arizona’s Non-Discrimination Statement:

ā€œThe University of Arizona is committed to creating and maintaining an environment free of discrimination. In support of this commitment, the University prohibits discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, based on a protected classification, including race, color, religion, s*x, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, s*xual orientation, gender identity, or genetic information. . ."

We are responsible for educating ourselves and helping create a more inclusive environment. Together, let us work hard to have the members within the AANHPI feel safe within the Wildcat Community! Together, let us .

The insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capitol this past month brought immense shock and tragedy to the country and international audiences.Ā

The riots followed by the violent attack against the United States Congress has taken a toll on the mental health of everyone who has seen these events unfold in person and in various media sources and outlets.Ā

As your senators, it is our duty and responsibility to voice out the concerns of the Wildcat community, especially the undergraduates that we serve. Please know that your concerns are being heard and we are here to support you.Ā

During this time, we request members of the University of Arizona to prioritize their mental health and wellness as we begin a new semester. You are all valued members of the Wildcat community, and if you are having a difficult time coping with recent events, please reach out to the following resources on campus:
