NRC Tucson March Drill Weekend Recap

We began the DWE at All Hands by recognizing two outstanding Sailors for their exceptional service. LS1 Osorioaguirre received a SPOT Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) for outstanding performance as the Command CFL and Safety Program Manager. HM2 Miller was awarded an End of Tour (EOT) NAM for four years of dedicated service to NRC Tucson. Fair winds and following seas at your next duty station, HM2!

Saturday’s highlight was the Change of Command Ceremony. We bid farewell to CDR Cedros after an outstanding tour as Commanding Officer and welcomed LCDR Palmer aboard as the new CO of NRC Tucson. Thank you, CDR Cedros, for your leadership and service, and welcome aboard, LCDR Palmer!

Sunday’s focus was Command Indoctrination (INDOC), helping onboard our newest reservists and ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed in the Navy Reserve.

Dental readiness was also a priority this weekend, as many of our SELRES completed required X ray examinations to improve overall medical readiness.

On March 7th, NRC Tucson held a Change of Command ceremony as CDR Chris “Hoff” Cedros was formally relieved by LCDR Pete “P2” Palmer at NRC Tucson.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of CAPT Collins, Commodore of Navy Reserve Region Readiness and Mobilization Command San Diego (REDCOM SD); CAPT Craig Derananian, Deputy Commodore of REDCOM SD; CAPT Bogan, Commanding Officer of NRC Phoenix; and CDR Sacramento, Commanding Officer of RTAG Southwest. We were also proud to have our Marine Corps counterparts leadership, along with family and friends, in attendance to witness this important milestone.

We extend our sincere gratitude to CDR Cedros for his steadfast leadership and dedication over the past two and a half years. His commitment to Mobilization readiness, Sailor development, and command excellence has left a lasting impact on Team Tucson.

To LCDR Palmer, welcome aboard and congratulations on taking command, Skipper! We look forward to your leadership as NRC Tucson continues to move forward with strength and purpose.

On February 26th, NRC Tucson proudly participated in the Tucson Rodeo Parade, showcasing our strong connection to the local community and our commitment to service both in and out of uniform.

NRC Tucson staff marched alongside Sailors and Officers from NTAG Phoenix, the USS Tucson (SSN-770), and members of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) Tucson Base, representing generations of naval service.

This event was a great opportunity for community outreach, allowing us to engage with the people of Tucson, share our Navy story, and strengthen the bond between the military and the community we proudly serve.

We are honored to support the local population and to represent the Navy’s enduring presence in Southern Arizona. Events like this highlight the pride, professionalism, and dedication of our Sailors and Veterans alike. Thank you to everyone who came out to support, we are proud to serve Tucson!

NRC Tucson February Drill Weekend Recap

February’s Drill Weekend was centered on preparation for, and completion of, the Advancement Exam. We wish the best of luck to all our SELRES who were eligible to test. Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we are rooting for your success as you pursue the next paygrade.

We were also visited by the Psychological Health Outreach Program (PHOP) Specialist, Mr. Glenn Holly, who provided both valuable training and one on one sessions for our Sailors. PHOP continues to be an invaluable resource, and if you are experiencing any challenges or feel you could benefit from support, please inform the NRC staff. Thank you, Mr. Holly, for your continued dedication to the well being of our Sailors.

Looking ahead, March’s Drill Weekend will include a Change of Command ceremony for our Commanding Officer. If you are interested in volunteering to support this important event, please contact the NRC staff. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

On February 6th, 2026, NRC Tucson proudly recognized two outstanding Sailors for their continued commitment to serving our nation.

HM1 Christensen re-enlisted for four additional years of service and is currently attached to NTAG Phoenix, where he continues to serve on active duty orders. HM1 Christensen has completed back-to-back tours in recruiting, playing a critical role in strengthening the Navy by bringing in the next generation of Sailors. His dedication and sustained excellence exemplify what it means to serve the force.

We also welcomed GM2 Antonio into the Navy Reserves, as he enlisted for two years of service following honorable active duty service aboard USS Gettysburg (CG-64). GM2 Antonio previously deployed in support of operations within the Fifth Fleet Area of Operations and now continues his Navy journey in the Reserve Component.

Thank you to both of these phenomenal Sailors for their professionalism, sacrifice, and continued service to our country. Welcome to the Reserves GM2, and Bravo Zulu to HM1!

On January 28th, 2026, NRC Tucson proudly celebrated the re-enlistment of BU2 Sergio Ochoa, who committed to three additional years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

BU2 Ochoa serves in NRC Tucson’s Reserve Support Unit (RSU) and is UMUIC to Naval Construction Battalion (NCB) 18 in Port Hueneme, California, where he supports core Seabee construction, engineering, and expeditionary operations essential to mission success.

In addition to his military service, BU2 Ochoa brings more than 20 years of civilian law enforcement experience, serving in criminal investigations and as a member of a SWAT team, further demonstrating his dedication to public service and community safety.

We are grateful for BU2 Ochoa’s continued commitment to serving our nation both in and out of uniform. Thank you for your service, shipmate!

NRC Tucson January Drill Weekend Recap

January was a busy and highly impactful DWE for NRC Tucson as we had the honor of hosting our leadership from REDCOM San Diego, along with AMMU dental providers, making this a weekend fully focused on recognition, readiness, and mobilization support.

We kicked off the DWE at All Hands by recognizing outstanding Sailors and staff for their exceptional performance:

-Staff Sailor of the Year (SPOT Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM)): PS1 Holloway
-REDCOM Southwest Region Civilian of the Quarter: Mr. Chris Stevens
-Junior Sailor of the Quarter: EM2 Roettger
-Blue Jacket of the Quarter: ET3 Jeffreys

Bravo Zulu to each of you for setting the standard across the command!

We also had the pleasure of frocking several Sailors to the next paygrade, congratulations on this well-earned milestone:

Following All Hands, NRC Tucson immediately pivoted to REDCOM services in support of Legal Readiness Assessments (LRA). Throughout the weekend, personnel were able to sign and validate their Wills and Powers of Attorney, directly enhancing mobilization readiness across the command.

On Sunday, REDCOM San Diego further supported NRC Tucson by hosting an in-house Deployment Readiness Training (DRT). On behalf of the command, THANK YOU to our ISIC for traveling to Tucson to deliver these critical readiness services, your support directly enables mission success.

Additionally, AMMU Dental Providers were on station throughout the DWE, significantly improving our medical readiness. Thank you for your continued partnership, medical readiness is mobilization readiness!

Finally, January marked the final month for DEOCS survey feedback. Thank you to the SELRES who took the time to provide candid input, helping NRC Tucson understand both where we excel and where we can improve.

On January 10th, 2026, NRC Tucson had the honor of hosting a retirement ceremony for Master-at-Arms Chief (MAC) Jesus Rodriguez at the Davis-Monthan Chapel, celebrating more than 20 years of faithful and dedicated military service.

Throughout his distinguished career, MAC Rodriguez served in assignments around the world, including Naples, Italy; Rota, Spain; Okinawa, Japan; and in support of the Global War on Terror in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impact wherever he served.

During his time at NRC Tucson, MAC Rodriguez served as the Command Security Officer (SECO), where he reinvigorated the command’s Anti-Terrorism (AT), Operations Security (OPSEC), and Continuity of Operations (COOP) programs, significantly strengthening the command’s readiness and security posture.

The ceremony included remarks from guest speaker Captain Craig Derananian, Deputy Commodore REDCOM SD, who spoke to MAC Rodriguez’s professionalism, mentorship, and legacy of service. He was presented the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) in recognition of his outstanding service.

NRC Tucson is proud to have been MAC Rodriguez’s final duty station. Fair winds and following seas, and thank you, Chief, for your unwavering service to the Navy and our country.
