The Quincie Douglas Branch Library opened in 2005 near the Quincie Douglas Neighborhood Center. The 10,000 square foot library was a culmination of a neighborhood and city planning process to enhance ser

vices in the community. The $3.5 million facility, which was funded by voter-approved bonds from the 2000 election, includes a computer lab, study rooms, and a meeting room, which serves as an important community gathering place. The library is named in honor of neighborhood resident and community advocate Quincie Bell Sims Douglas (1905-1986), who was active in the Model Cities program that brought neighborhood centers, sidewalks, street lights, and food programs to the disadvantaged areas of Tucson. Douglas, a champion of the poor and the elderly, also spearheaded the Low Income Free Transportation Services (LIFTS) program, which is now known as the Sun Van transportation service.

Carlos aka GEM! 💎 Library technical assistant, Carlos Aguila, is praised by colleagues, supervisors, & patrons for always having a helpful attitude and upbeat personality! 🤗 Besides helping patrons troubleshoot computer issues at Quincie Douglas Library- Carlos is lifting spirits by leaving pizza and french fry pens at the front desk or adding fun & educational games to the end of staff meetings. 🍕 Carlos was honored as a GEM in our Pima County Employee Recognition Program! Well-deserved, Carlos! 👏
