The City of Tucson is expanding options to address homelessness, and PDSD is updating the zoning rules that govern emergency shelters.

Working with the Drachman Institute at the University of Arizona’s College of Architecture, Tucson Planning and Development Services is hosting a walk-through exhibit on how those rules work today and what changes are under consideration.

No decisions have been made yet. Stop by, take a look, and tell us what you think.

Sunday, September 13, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Fourth Avenue Coalition Space, 311 E. 7th St. Drop in anytime.

There is still time to enter the Middle Housing Design Competition. Submissions close Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Architects, engineers, designers, builders, contractors, design-build teams, and students may submit up to four entries. The committee will select 15 designs, and each will receive a $1,000 award funded by AARP. Building review fees will be waived for selected designs submitted as model plans, and designers retain full ownership of their work.

Visit middlehousing.tucsonaz.gov for competition requirements and submission instructions.

This project was made possible due to the generous support of AARP.
