In my last post, I stated that I would repeal the Gas Tax. What is my proposal to offset that loss of income and have money for the Road Fund?
#2: Vacation Rental Tax
if the purpose of the Gas Tax was to have the out-of-town vacationers help to pay for the repairs and upgrades on NJ roads, then let's use that idea, but in a more practical way. I will place a $100 flat fee Vacation Rental Tax for a vacation properties that are rented in the numerous Shore Towns of NJ. Spending a week on LBI, renting a place for $1300? it's now $1400, and the $100 Rental Tax comes off the top.
Let's say - conservative numbers - there are 30,000 Vacation Rentals on LBI. 30,000 x $100 = $3,000,000. $3 Million x 10 weeks (roughly) of Summer = $30 Million. I think the Road Fund could survive on $30 Million...and that hasn't even accounted for the Summer Rental Properties in Ocean City, Wildwood, Seaside, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle, Pt Pleasant...the list goes on.
Again, please let me know what you think. I want to spend the next 4 years once I'm elected, to try to fix NJ.
