Navajo DOT is sharing the following update from NM DOT:

Paving Begins on Newly Constructed Roadway,
Traffic delays expected

GALLUP, NM – Beginning June 1, paving, surfacing, and striping operations will take place on the westbound lanes of NM 264 as part of an ongoing roadway reconstruction project. The project spans approximately 5.4 miles west of Yah-ta-Hey.

FNF Construction, Inc. (contractor) will pave the newly constructed roadway, followed by the application of an Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC). This specialized surface improves safety by reducing hydroplaning and water spray, while also maintaining traction and minimizing road noise.

During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and routed through the eastbound detour lanes. Speed limits will be lowered to 55 mph within the work zone. Work hours are scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Paving activities are expected to continue for approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, follow all posted signs and detours, reduce speed, and stay alert for construction crews and equipment.

For current road conditions, visit NMRoads.com or call 511.
