Our Mission is to mitigate medical emergencies and ensure life safety for the residents of Sierra County.
• Primary Response Area of greater than 4,236 square miles
• Cover an area close to 5,000 square miles including mutual aid responses
• Provide care to the approx. 11,500 residents of Sierra County
• That population can grow to over 100,000 people on a holiday week
end
• Serve rural and underdeveloped communities
• Response area includes over 70 miles of Interstate 25
• Provide medical response services to Elephant Butte Lake State Park and Caballo Lake State Park
• Operate in remote mountain areas
• To include National Forest Lands and BLM Lands
• Support the missions of Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic with medical capabilities
• SVH EMS is the primary EMS service for Sierra County
• 3 minimally EMS staffed volunteer fire departments for support
• Have acquired special skills and expanded scope of practice, approved by the State of NM, to mitigate remote responses
• To include:
• Special STEMI bypass protocols
• Critical Care ground transport team and equipment
• Special Cardiac Arrest management protocols for Advanced EMTs
• Successful Community EMS program
• Goals of CEMS are:
• Meet the community’s needs by:
• Assisting with patient education
• Ensuring patients have access to their medications and understand how to use them
• Assisting patients with finding primary care physicians
• Ensuring patients can safely get to appointments
• Fall prevention assessment and equipment distribution
• Meet the hospitals needs with transitional care management:
• Reduces 72 hours readmits
• Assists patients with follow-up care by ensuring points above
• Swiftwater Rescue Team
• Crisis Intervention Team program
