I want to take a moment to congratulate each of the newly elected officials, Ben Short, Ben Horton, Brian Jackson, Jaime Anderson, Jim Miller and Kim Farr for their victories.

Each of these candidates brings a well qualified skill set to the table and I will pray for them in the journey forward that they will govern with wisdom and forethought. Each of these individuals have displayed a passion for this city and it is my hope that our great city will get behind them and support them with encouragement, engagement, support and prayer. I know that I will offer my help in any way that will be productive for this city.

I have said this to many of you as we went through this elections cycle, it is my goal to “live in peace with all men” as the Bible directs us in Hebrews. While this process had its moments with heated debate, I do hope and pray that each of us remembers that these individuals are human beings, they have faults just like each of us do. But, they are amazing people who have placed themselves on the line to serve us. They are parents, children, siblings, friends and neighbors and we need to strive to remember that as we move forward. No good comes from contention and strife. It is my prayer that we as a community will put aside the differences that arose during this election cycle and put our full weight and support behind the individuals who were willing, able and elected to serve us! Trussville is an amazing place and we can all work together with our newly elected officials to make it even better!

The Cahaba Homestead Project area of Trussville is a unique neighborhood with its own special historical value. While renovation and modernization are sometimes inevitable, we can work together to ensure that it doesn’t lose its charm. Vote for me on 8/26 and let’s get to work!

One thing I’ve been asked several times is whether I support a forensic audit of the City’s finances. I think it’s important to discuss what a forensic audit actually is. In a nutshell, a forensic audit is a specialized, in-depth examination of financial records to uncover financial misconduct, fraud, or other irregularities, often to support legal proceedings or internal investigations. That is much different than an annual or routine audit. I want to make very clear that I have no knowledge of wrongdoing by anyone employed by our City. I am not calling for a forensic audit on day one. However, I know that transparency is at the forefront of this election cycle like never before. I think that the new Mayor and City Council owe it to the citizens of Trussville to take a hard look at the books as soon as possible. You deserve that. If after doing our due diligence it appears that further steps need to be taken to address things, like conducting a forensic audit, then I would certainly support having one done. I would think that anyone in leadership would support doing what needs to be done to fix things that need to be fixed.

Our City is $161,000,000 in debt. Our infrastructure is being strained on many levels. We must act now to address these critical areas! I will NEVER support raising our taxes or imposing fees for things we already pay for. Vote for me on 8/26 and let’s get to work! Please share this with your Trussville friends and family!
