MassDOT will be hosting a Route 6 Resurfacing, Wellfleet/Truro Public Information Meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 6:30 pm at the Truro Community Center, 7 Standish Way, North Truro

What is happening?
MassDOT will host a public information meeting to provide community members the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the Route 6 Resurfacing project in Wellfleet and Truro. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

How will this affect you?
The purpose of this project is to resurface Route 6 in the towns of Truro and Wellfleet in order to improve roadway surface conditions, extend the utility of existing pavement structures, and improve roadway safety along the corridor. Other proposed improvements include construction of a sidewalk on the west side of Route 6 from the Truro Public Safety Facility to Shore Road, limited drainage upgrades, replacing or cleaning existing drainage outfalls, and updating existing substandard guardrail.

Visit www.mass.gov/orgs/highway-division/events for more information or to view a recording of the presentation if you are unable to attend the meeting.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection season is in full swing across Cape Cod!

Now through the fall, Cape residents can safely dispose of items that don't belong in the trash, including:

✔️ Oil paints and solvents
✔️ Automotive and fuel products
✔️ Household cleaners
✔️ Lawn and garden chemicals
✔️ Mercury-containing items

Proper disposal helps protect Cape Cod's drinking water, local waterways, and the environment we all depend on. It also helps keep first responders safer by removing potentially dangerous materials from homes, garages, sheds, and basements.

⚠️ Before you load up the car, check your town's collection schedule and accepted items. Not everything can be brought to every collection.

👉 Visit www.loveyourlocalwater.org to:
• Find your town's collection brochure
• See what materials are accepted
• Learn what cannot be brought to collections
• Get dates, locations, and program details

Let's clear the clutter and protect the Cape we love. 💙

🌭Cape Cod, let's talk grill safety.

Be honest...

How many of you are still using the "poke it and hope" method to see if burgers are done?

Because grill marks are not a food safety strategy.

Summer means cookouts, beach parties, graduation celebrations, and backyard BBQs. But warm weather and outdoor cooking can also create the perfect conditions for foodborne illness if food isn't handled safely.

Did you know?

✔️ Turkey burgers aren't done when they "look done." They need to hit 165°F before they earn a spot on your plate.

✔️ Those beautiful grill marks? Great for Instagram. Not great for checking doneness.

✔️ Bacteria consider 40°F to 140°F perfect patio weather.

✔️ If the potato salad has been enjoying the sunshine longer than your beach towel, it's probably time to let it go. 😬

Our Nutrition & Food Safety team put together some simple tips to help keep your family and guests safe this summer, whether you're grilling burgers, seafood, vegetables, or smoking meat.

Read the blog here https://loom.ly/yZE1nZ8

Because summer memories should end with sunsets and s'mores... not food poisoning.

It's bathing beach season! :) 🌊

That means that you will start to see staff from the County, and sometimes local Health Department, out at the beaches taking water samples.

What are they looking for?

The main goal is to detect and prevent illness caused by pathogens in bathing water. The state-certified lab measures Enterococci, a group of bacteria that serve as indicator organisms for f***l contamination. While Enterococci themselves are not always directly harmful, their presence signals possible contamination from human or animal waste, which can cause illnesses such as urinary tract infections, skin, eye, ear, and respiratory diseases.

We are off to a good start!
