The advisory at Ryder also remains in effect.

Great Pond is being watched but is not subject to an advisory at this time.

Cape Cod, you have homework.
CLEAN THE GUTTAHS.
Yes, really. This is storm prep.

When heavy rain falls, all that water has to go somewhere. Gutters and downspouts help move it away from your roof and home. When they’re packed with leaves, pine needles, and whatever else has been living rent-free up there, water can overflow and end up where it absolutely does not belong.

And preventing water from getting into your house is considerably easier than getting water back out.

So, while it’s still dry: clear the guttahs, check the downspouts, and give that rain somewhere to go.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲

On September 23, the Town was notified that solid waste being transported from the Transfer Station contained radioactive material. Further review identified two affected trailers containing different types of radioactive material. The materials appear to have come from separate sources, possibly older dumbbells containing zircon and medical waste associated with cancer treatment.

The hoppers have been cleaned out and remain in service. Two trailers are temporarily out of service while the Town works with a qualified contractor to address the materials. At this time, the Transfer Station cannot accept recycling from commercial haulers. We will provide an update when that service resumes.

Please dispose of hazardous materials and medications through appropriate collection or take-back programs, rather than placing them in regular trash. If you are unsure how to dispose of an item, please contact the Department of Public Works before bringing it to the Transfer Station.

Coastal storm update from Barnstable County Emergency Management Director

Since 9/22:
The forecast is holding: a large, slow-moving storm that stays in the region into early next week. The exact track and timing are still uncertain, and NWS rates its confidence in the level of impact as low to moderate.
• Winds: For Saturday evening, NWS gives the Cape and Islands a 53–74% chance of gusts over 40 mph, with 55–60+ mph gusts possible for the Cape, the Islands, and southeast Massachusetts.
• Marine alerts: NWS has issued Gale Warnings and Storm Watches for the coastal waters.
• Duration: The storm may not clear the region until Tuesday or Wednesday.

What we're watching:
• Power outages: Strong winds and fully leafed trees raise the risk above what we'd normally see in September.
• Coastal flooding and erosion: Minor flooding is possible as early as Friday afternoon and may continue over several high tides through the weekend, with the full moon adding to it. East-facing shorelines have the greatest erosion risk.
• Dangerous seas: Storm-force gusts are possible, with seas of 15–25 ft on the outer waters.
• Heavy rain: NWS shows 2–4 inches across eastern southern New England. Frank shows 3–5 inches in parts of the Cape, with some higher amounts possible, depending on the final track.

Timing:
• Thursday: Winds and seas build.
• Friday: Rain begins by evening.
• Saturday: The worst wind and heaviest rain.
• Sunday into early next week: The storm weakens but stays in the region.
