Phoenix Senior Recognition: Jose Luis Mondragon Perez

Jose Luis Mondragon Perez is the son of Jose Mondragon Mondragon and Concepcion Martinez Perez. Throughout high school, Jose has been an active leader within the Montgomery County Early College community, participating in Phoenix Ambassadors, Beta Club, Interact Club, OLAS, Save Our World Club, Student Government, and Yearbook Club. He has also dedicated his time to serving others through PODER, Youth Leadership Montgomery, and several additional community organizations. In 2025, Jose participated in the SATELLITE program at North Carolina State University.

Outside of school, Jose balanced academics with several part-time jobs, including positions at McDonald’s, Kalawi Farms, Harris Teeter, and BA Detailing.

During his time at MCEC, he earned both an Associate in Science degree and a Business Administration Certificate from Montgomery Community College. In the fall, Jose plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to pursue a degree in engineering.

Favorite MCEC Memory: “When I would sit with all of my friends in the hallways and listen to all the different things they talked about.”

Advice to underclassmen: “Don’t ever let anything get in the way of your dreams. The road to your goals is meant to be tough, but that is also why you must stay resilient to achieve them.”

What he would have done differently: “I wouldn’t have let the smallest of things get to me and my mental health.”
