Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties, OH

Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties, OH We are a faith-based organization that envisions a place where all have access to homeownership.

WHO WE ARE:
Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties, OH (HFHMSCO) is a faith-based organization that provides moderate to low-income individuals and families the life-changing opportunity to purchase and own simple, quality, affordable homes. WHO WE SERVE:
HFHMSCO defines “need” as someone earning 30-50% of the average median income (AMI). WHAT WE DO:
• HFHMSCO cultivates and educates fir

st-time, moderate to low-income buyers. Volunteers and staff work with potential homeowners to prepare them for long-term, sustainable success as homeowners with roughly six months of education and preparation.
• HFHMSCO partners with hired contractors, volunteers, and the future homeowners to build or rehab the homes.
• HFHMSCO facilitates the ability for families to help themselves by providing no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans.
• HFHMSCO requires families in our program participate in a minimum of 400 hours of “sweat equity”, which includes participating in an extensive set of preparation courses and volunteering on their own home and other Habitat home projects.

A huge thank you to the amazing team from Wright-Patt Credit Union's new Tipp City branch for rolling up their sleeves and partnering with our dedicated volunteers in the Habitat Activity Center! Together, they worked on a playhouse, park benches, and a picnic table through our Sponsorship Program, creating lasting community assets while making a meaningful impact.

Sponsorships like this do more than fund volunteer projects—they help support Habitat’s Home Repair Program, which provides critical home repairs and accessibility modifications at no cost to qualified homeowners. Your support helps families live more safely, comfortably, and independently in their homes.

Thank you for investing in our community and helping us build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter! 💙🔨🏠

What a great start to our week in the Habitat Activity Center!

Some of the PREP Program students (Plan, Research, Explore, Practice) from Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities who helped out in the HAC last week came back and brought some new faces to continue painting wood for several of our ongoing projects. The PREP Program helps students prepare for life after high school by providing opportunities to explore careers, develop workplace skills, and gain meaningful real-world experience.

Today they painted parts for our park benches and picnic tables as well as trim for a sponsored playhouse that will be donated to a youth-serving organization in our area once it is assembled.

Thank you to these outstanding students for investing their time and energy in our community—not just once, but twice! We appreciate your hard work and are grateful to have been a small part of your learning journey.

A big thank you to the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities PREP students (Plan, Research, Explore, Practice) for joining our dedicated volunteers at the Habitat Activity Center this week!

The PREP Program is designed to help students successfully transition from high school to adulthood by supporting them as they plan for the future, explore career opportunities, and gain valuable real-world experiences. We were honored to be part of that journey as students worked alongside our volunteers, building skills, confidence, and connections through hands-on community service.

Thank you, PREP students, for your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to making a difference in our community!

May 4-8 was an incredible week here at Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties. Together with our partners at Troy Community Works!, City of Troy, Ohio Government, Beloved Community-Troy, Ohio , Troy Ohio Chamber of Commerce, The Troy Foundation, and Western Ohio Home Builders Association we brought Rock the Block back to Troy for the second year. Last year's event was a huge success, with 10 homes seeing exterior repair and beautification projects. This year was bigger and better... the event impacted EIGHTEEN properties we will be highlighting some of those properties here.
This year, in addition to our 7 planning organizations, 48 other companies and organizations had some hand in making this a reality. They sent volunteers, donated materials, provided lunches, and more.
Keep watching our Rock the Block photo album as we update with the amazing before and afters.
