๐Ÿš” Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

The Troy Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Michigan for increased impaired-driving enforcement through September 7.

As we head into the final weekends of summer and the Labor Day holiday, remember: If youโ€™ve been drinking, donโ€™t drive.

Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange another safe way home.

Drive sober. Get home safely.

Got old batteries? Our DPW Facility (4693 Rochester Rd.) has introduced a new battery recycling container for safe disposal of batteries. The container will be available to residents including after business hours and on weekends.

A new way to recycle โ™ป Our DPW Facility (4693 Rochester Rd.) has introduced a new battery recycling container for safe disposal of batteries. The container will be available to residents including after business hours and on weekends.

Please do not leave large batteries that are unable to fit in the container or batteries that are leaking, damaged, or swollen. Accepted batteries include Alkaline, lithium, lithium-ion, and NiCad batteries. All other batteries may continue to be recycled at SOCRRA (appointment required).

Proper and safe disposal of batteries prevents fires from starting in garbage trucks and recycling facilities, and helps keep toxic chemicals from entering our soil and water.

โš ๏ธ Is It an E-Bikeโ€ฆ or an Electric Motorcycle?

E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular, but the Troy Police Department has also seen an increase in unsafe riding and has recently responded to injury crashes involving e-bikes and electric motorcycles.

One important reminder: Not everything marketed or sold as an โ€œe-bikeโ€ is legally an e-bike in Michigan.

๐Ÿšฒ E-Bikes
Michigan generally defines an electric bicycle as having operable pedals and an electric motor of 750 watts or less, with motor assistance limited to 20 or 28 mph, depending on the class.

๐Ÿ๏ธ Electric Motorcycles
Some electric vehicles may resemble e-bikes but legally qualify as motorcycles. If they do, motorcycle laws apply, including licensing, endorsement, registration, insurance and equipment requirements.

Parents and riders: Know what youโ€™re buying and understand the rules before hitting the road. Regardless of what you ride, ride responsibly, obey traffic laws, wear a helmet and watch out for pedestrians, vehicles and other cyclists.

These vehicles can reach significant speeds, and unsafe riding can have serious consequences.

Know what youโ€™re riding. Know the rules. Ride responsibly.

The classics are already starting to hit the road! ๐Ÿš˜

With the Woodward Dream Cruise happening tomorrow, expect to see plenty of classic cars, cruisers, and extra traffic throughout the area.

Whether you're behind the wheel of something built in 1967 or 2026, the rules haven't changed: buckle up, put the phone down, watch your speed, and enjoy the ride responsibly.

Have fun out there, and drive safe!
