Student United Way Awards $7,500 to Support Youth Programs Across Miami County
Piqua, Ohio — The future of Miami County is in good hands.
Last week, seven student leaders representing West Milton, Piqua, Troy, and Miami East came together through the Student United Way of Miami County to make a real and meaningful impact — awarding a total of $7,500 in grant funding to programs serving youth ages 18 and under.
These students didn’t just participate — they led.
Over the past several weeks, the Student United Way members reviewed applications from local organizations, asked thoughtful and intentional questions during agency interviews, and engaged in meaningful discussions about the most pressing needs facing young people in our community. Through this process, they learned firsthand what it means to be a philanthropist and a community leader.
“This is what it’s all about,” said Sean Ford, CEO of the United Way of Miami County. “These students stepped up in a big way. They took this responsibility seriously, had some tough conversations, and ultimately made decisions that will positively impact the lives of youth across our county.”
The funded programs represent a wide range of services aimed at strengthening opportunities for young people — from education and mentorship to basic needs and overall well-being.
Student United Way is designed to empower the next generation of leaders by giving them real-world experience in grant making, community impact, and leadership. By placing funding decisions directly in the hands of students, the program helps ensure that youth voices are heard and valued when shaping the future of Miami County.
“This experience gives students a seat at the table,” Ford added. “They’re not just the leaders of tomorrow — they’re making a difference today.”
The United Way of Miami County is proud to support and invest in both the organizations serving youth and the students who are helping lead the way.
