Do people continue to use library buildings? Do people prefer using tablets with the internet? Buying books?

We all enjoyed the Troy Public Library that was housed in the offices of Haroldine Early. The library is now closed and the books so graciously given over the years will be donated to many worthy organizations. Thank you for sharing our accomplishments over the years. Many people volunteered their time to work on the library for Troy in hope that we could get it to be a great place for families. Quickly after I moved to the area, I invested my time, about 3 years working on it. The building itself, owned by Haroldine Early had some serious issues that needed addressing and it was too small to house the books that many generous people have donated over the years. During a public comment period of a City Council meeting, Haroldine Early asked that the Council take on the responsibility of this facility. Sadly, as a small City with limited resources, that we are working on expanding, we could not find a place to house the library and staff it for the public. Over the years, a couple of City Administrators, Coucil members and a couple of Mayors, that I know have, have listened to the need but Troy simply does not have the ability to keep the library so it was never placed on the agenda for discussion. The only action that the City can take on behalf of the citizens is by a majority vote of the Council, not a Mayor or City Administration. It is sad that Haroldine Early and friends cannot maintain and keep up this special place where our friends would straddle piles of books to find their favorite authors, so it will be closed. The many precious books given over the years will be given to worthy places who will enjoy them and be used by more people. With this being said, I say good bye to the special books given by the generousity of many families over the years, and the memories that surround the Troy Public Library housed in the offices of Haroldine Early. Thank you for sharing your building with the community.

Tree decorations are down. Donations are not. Hmm. I was so cold that I didn't think to take photos of the boxes of books that were donated. Thank you to the generous library friends.

I chuckled when I saw this book at the Troy Elementary Reading Night Award Ceremony. It made me think of our own Troy Public Library and the abundance of books. I think that we are blessed to have such a wonderful variety of books! :)
