Megan was recently presented with a 2026 Lake Steward Award at the New York State Federation of Lakes Association (NYSFOLA) Conference in Lake George. She was nominated by the Babcock Lake Estates, who had this to share:
Meg has been a dedicated resident of Babcock Lake in Rensselaer County for many years and has continuously shown her commitment to environmental preservation and community engagement. Her leadership on the volunteer lake board of directors and significant involvement in the environmental committee have been pivotal in fostering numerous positive improvements within the Babcock Lake watershed and its community.
Meg’s accomplishments are noteworthy. She successfully spearheaded the development of a comprehensive forest management plan, enabling the community to secure grants aimed at enhancing the Babcock Lake watershed. Her understanding and vigilance regarding invasive species have driven her to volunteer her time extensively in efforts of identification and risk mitigation. Often found on the lake, Meg educates her fellow residents on the importance of prevention and promotes effective lake stewardship practices.
Additionally, Meg has been actively engaged in the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) monitoring efforts. Her instrumental role in incorporating Babcock Lake into the NYS septic reimbursement program has been a significant, as numerous lake residents have benefited from these opportunities, thereby enhancing water quality.
Meg also participates in lake aquatic plant pulls, during which she detected small patches of curly leaf pondweed, and she diligently shares credible information on reducing invasive risks and improving overall lake health. Her attendance at various conferences and educational sessions on New York State invasive species is invaluable, as she consistently brings back insights that benefit the community, including educational outreach on the significance and promoting environmental stewardship.
Meg’s contributions have undeniably enriched our lake community. Her unwavering knowledge and support have been invaluable assets. Her ongoing dedication and expertise will undoubtedly inspire others to join her in this vital stewardship journey.
