Constable Blackmon along with Chief Deputy Stewart attended the Texas Peace officers Public Information Conference in Conroe. The training was provided through the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, (LEMIT). The Public Information Officer (PIO) is for an individual who is assigned by a state agency or local government entity whose duties include communicating with the Public during a disaster regarding the disaster. The course was helpful in understanding the role of the Government agency working with all the different types of media organizations to provide critical information to the public regarding an incident.

One Wood County deputy suffered multiple gun shot wounds and one DPS trooper was also shot several times.
