Dade County EMA will open all three community shelter facilities as cooling areas due to the high heat index forecast for our area over the next several days.

These shelters will be open 24 hours a day for anyone who needs them. The community shelters are monitored by cameras so we can know if anyone is there and to help ensure everyone’s safety.

If you use these facilities, tables and chairs will be available, but you will need to bring any items you may need to stay for an extended period, such as food and water.

Heat will persist into the new week with high temperatures climbing into the mid and upper 90s degrees and heat indices approaching 110 degrees on Monday. Chances for showers and thunderstorms especially on Monday will have chances of producing strong winds. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for all of northern AL and southern middle TN through this evening

A front moving through Tennessee on Monday will spread scattered thunderstorms into north Georgia during the afternoon and evening. A few of these storms may become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph being the primary threat. Storms will also produce frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

Good afternoon — Heat index values Friday will rise into the 100–108°F range. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1–8 p.m. Friday as a result. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

A Heat Advisory continues for all of Northern Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee, today through Sunday. Temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid to upper 90s with heat indices in the triple digits.
