This Labor Day weekend is the first one where cocktails-to-go is a permanent thing in New Jersey. So whether you're along the Jersey Shore, at a restaurant in Hoboken, or anywhere in between, you can take your drink home with you.

Bill sponsors Assemblywomen Luanne Peterpaul and Rosy Bagolie joined Governor Mikie Sherrill recently for the signing of A5225, giving certain restaurants, bars and distilleries another way to serve their customers, grow their businesses, and keep more dollars in our local communities.

What if the next owners of a New Jersey business could be the people who already work there?

Signed into law today, A5016 establishes a new program to help New Jersey businesses explore transitioning to employee ownership, including employee stock ownership plans, worker cooperatives and employee ownership trusts.
The law will provide businesses with financial assistance for feasibility studies, technical guidance and access to financing to help make employee ownership transitions possible.

Sponsored by Assemblywoman Lisa Swain and Assemblyman Roy Freiman, the new law can help local businesses plan for the future while creating more opportunities for workers to have an ownership stake in the businesses they help build.

One example of that work is right in Newark, where Speaker Craig J. Coughlin recently joined Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin and Assemblywoman Shanique Speight at RWJBarnabas Health’s Harvest: A Farm to Community Center to learn more about its innovative approach to expanding food access and supporting the community.

Harvest connects residents with fresh, healthy food, engages the community around nutrition, and provides space for local food entrepreneurs to prepare their products.

It’s the kind of community-based solution that can help close the gap between the food that’s available and the New Jerseyans who need it.
