The New Jersey State Park Police patrol and protect the State’s 54 Parks,
Forests and Recreation Areas which encompass an excess of 422,000 acres
and are visited by more than 17 million people each year. We are a diverse group of men and women dedicated to safeguarding New
Jersey’s resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through the prevention
of crime, apprehension of criminals and enforcemen

t of criminal and motor
vehicle laws of the state, and enforcement of park regulations. The New Jersey State Park Police are empowered with the same Law
Enforcement authority as all New Jersey municipal, county and state police
officers. We respond to public safety emergencies as well as environmental
emergencies. Through various methods of patrol, including but not limited
to foot, bike, boat and motor, we provide courteous, professional,
knowledgeable assistance and services to the public at all times. The State
Park Police also give mutual aid assistance to municipal, county, state and
federal law enforcement agencies. The New Jersey State Park Police is also part of the New Jersey Costal
Evacuation Plan for Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean and Monmouth Counties and
we assist with the UASI Region, Urban Areas Security Initiative, which supports
select high-threat, high-density urban areas in order to address their unique
multi-discipline planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise
needs in building and sustaining capabilities to prevent, protect against,
respond to, and recover from threats or acts of terrorism.

Today, the members of the New Jersey State Park Police stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters of the Boston Fire Department Rescue Company 2 as we honor the life, sacrifice, and legacy of Robert “BK” Kilduff.

BK was the embodiment of service — a Marine, a firefighter, a father, and a leader whose courage defined what it means to answer the call without hesitation. A third-generation firefighter and proud member of Rescue Company 2, he dedicated his life to protecting others.

His sacrifice in the line of duty is a solemn reminder of the risks first responders face every day in service to their communities. Yet even in tragedy, BK’s legacy shines through in the countless lives he saved, the firefighters he mentored, and the example he set for all who wear the uniform.

From the New Jersey’s State Parks, Forests, and Historic Sites to the streets of Boston, the bond of public safety and brotherhood remains unbroken. We mourn alongside Rescue Company 2 and the entire Boston Fire Department family, and we honor BK not only for how he died, but for how he lived — with courage, humility, humor, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Rest easy, Brother Kilduff. Your watch is complete.

The New Jersey State Park Police is proud of the quick thinking and bravery of our officers during yesterday’s rescue in Wharton State Forest! Thank you to all of our mutual aid partner agencies for your hard work and rapid response. We are glad to share this successful ending.

A group of kayakers, including 10 juveniles, was rescued Saturday after becoming stranded by obstructions along the Batsto River in Wharton State Forest, according to state officials.

Meet Jeanne, Officer Somers and Officer Todaro, or as Jeanne lovingly calls them, her “earth angels.”

One year ago today, April 13, 2025, Jeanne experienced a medical emergency in the campgrounds at Spruce Run. In a moment that would change everything, Officer Todaro, alongside Officer Somers, sprang into action and performed CPR. Because of their quick response, skill, and unwavering commitment, Jeanne is here today.

The balloon Jeanne is holding carries a message that says it all, “Happy Birthday.” It was brought to her by Officer Todaro during her recovery, a heartfelt reminder of what he humbly calls her “new birthday.”

This photo captures more than a reunion, it captures compassion, courage, and the profound impact of public service. We are deeply grateful to our New Jersey State Park Police officers for their dedication, professionalism, and the care they show to every visitor, every day.

The New Jersey State Park Police is deeply saddened by the passing of the Ocean County Police Academy’s Chief Training Coordinator Ret. Lt. John Tate.

For more than two decades, he mentored and shaped generations of police recruits who came through the Ocean County Police Academy. Many within our own ranks have walked those halls and were impacted by Lt. Tate’s legacy.

Rest easy. We’ve got it from here. 💙
