New Jersey Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development New Jersey's One Stop Shop For Hispanic Empowerment The Office was mandated to provide funding for Hispanic initiatives in the Garden State.

The Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development (CHPRD) was established in 1975 to address the needs of the Hispanic community, recognizing that it was imperative to pay particular attention to this segment of the population, which had been historically neglected. The CHPRD has an executive director and an advisory committee, all appointed by the Governor. The Secretary of State serves as an ex-officio member of the advisory committee.

Today we're highlighting Rebecca Rodriguez! She is a Senior at the Ramapo College of New Jersey and is earning a major in History and a minor in Political Science.

As a NJ Hispanic Governor’s Fellow, Rebecca is spent the summer working with the Historical Society of Elizabeth to research the historical and environmental significance that the Arthur Kill Blueway has had on the surrounding region and its development.

We hope you had fun this summer!

Today we are highlighting Mike Rodriguez, a student at Rutgers University, who intern with the New Jersey Department of State's New Jersey Governor's Office of Volunteerism, working with the AmeriCorps program.

At his internship, he gained valuable insight into the complexity of collaboration between the federal and state governments. We hope Mike is enjoyed his time at the NJ Department of State!

Today we are highlighting Chantalle Reyes, a fellow in the New Jersey Governor's Hispanic Fellowship Program from Ramapo College of New Jersey, who interned at the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) Hudson North Local Office within the New Jersey Department of Children and Families.

Throughout her fellowship, Chantalle gained valuable hands-on experience within both the Intake and Permanency units. She served as a Spanish interpreter for children and families, helping reduce language barriers during critical interactions.

We hope Chantelle had fun at her internship site!

Today we are highlighting Amerie Ramos, an incoming sophomore at Ramapo College of New Jersey, majoring in Law and Society.

This summer, she was placed at Future City Inc., where along with three other interns, she collaborated to conduct a wide-scale project over the duration of the internship.

She did research, interviewed professionals, recorded, and edited videos for the City of Water Day 2026, taking place on July 25th, held by the Waterfront Alliance. The project focused on the Arthur Kill Strait, specifically its environmental and economic significance. Amerie participated in hands-on activities such as water testing.

These experiences have helped her strengthen her teamwork skills, communication skills, and research skills.

We hope you enjoyed your summer!

Today we are highlighting Jorge Osoria, a 2026 fellow at the NJ Governor's Hispanic Fellows Program, who interned at the New Jersey Department of State with Deputy Chief of Staff, Edward LaPorte.

Working under Mr. LaPorte allowed him to participate in and observe high-level meetings and interactions, as well as to showcase his ability to navigate several boards and commissions simultaneously.

Jorge was voted as class president for the year's cohort by his peers.
