May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At the UF Child Advocacy Center, we know that mental health is just as important as physical health — especially for children and families healing from trauma. Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, heard, and cared for.

This month, we encourage our community to:
✨ Check in on loved ones
✨ Practice kindness and patience
✨ Normalize conversations about mental health
✨ Seek support when needed

Healing happens through connection, compassion, and access to care. Together, we can help children build resilience and remind families that they are never alone.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available. 💚

Online sextortion targeting children and teens is becoming increasingly common, making prevention and open communication more important than ever. 💙

Children need to know that if someone threatens, pressures, or manipulates them online, they are not alone and it is never their fault. Honest conversations and trusted support can help keep kids safe.

We’re proud to amplify an important message from across our state: children who have experienced abuse deserve consistent, compassionate support—and the resources to make that possible.

A recent Tampa Bay Times opinion piece featuring our Florida Network of Children's Advocacy Centers Executive Director Luzed Cruz highlights the urgent need for continued federal funding for services that protect and advocate for abused and victimized children. Programs like Children’s Advocacy Centers play a critical role in providing healing, hope, and justice for children and families.

At the UF Child Advocacy Center, we see every day how vital these services are. The proposed Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act would help ensure that centers like ours can continue to serve children when they need it most.

Now is the time to stand up for children. We encourage our community to stay informed, share this message, and connect with elected officials to support funding for victim services.

Together, we can help protect and support every child who depends on these essential services.
