Last week, the State Parole Board held its fourth annual Pride Flag ceremony in recognition of Pride Month, which occurs annually in June. Chairman Samuel J. Plumeri, Jr. provided opening remarks, acknowledging the history behind Pride Month and its importance in ongoing efforts to ensure equality for all. Lieutenant Attaa Alston, on behalf of the State Parole Board’s LGBTQ+ Liaisons, then spoke about the history and significance of the Pride Flag, and the State Parole Board’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that every person served by the agency feels treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Pride Month gives us the chance to acknowledge the important contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals within the State Parole Board and beyond, whose service, guidance, and courage benefit our entire community.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) Executive Director Mitchell C. Sklar, Esq. and Accreditation Program Director Harry J. Delgado presented Chairman Samuel J. Plumeri, Jr., Vice Chairman Ronald L. Slaughter, and Chief David Brooks with a Certificate of Re-Accreditation. This marks the State Parole Board’s fifth overall accreditation, which Director Delgado noted has only been achieved by approximately 3% of law enforcement agencies in the State.

The State Parole Board would like to recognize and thank all who assisted in this accreditation cycle, especially Deputy Chief Thomas Hubbard and Lieutenant James Yu who led such efforts. The State Parole Board is dedicated to professionalism and continued improvements in policy and practice, and is proud to receive re-accreditation!

The State Parole Board extends its congratulations to Sergeant MacFarlane, who recently received the Exceptional Service Award from the Civil Service Commission (CSC)! The Exceptional Service Award recognizes employees who demonstrate outstanding public service beyond the scope of their regular duties, including but not limited to effective responses to crisis or emergency situations, and whose actions reflect credit upon the State of New Jersey. Sergeant MacFarlane was nominated for his proactive effort to modernize and streamline office operations, review and update outdated procedures, and for his willingness to go above and beyond for others. The State Parole Board would like to thank everyone who stopped by and spoke to Deputy Chief Hubbard, Lieutenant Pagan, Sergeant Morgan, and Senior Parole Officer Collins at the Chai with a Cop event in Windsor on Saturday, May 16th ! Officers enjoyed the opportunity to connect with members of the community, have impactful conversations, and strengthen relationships in a relaxed setting. Yesterday, Senior Parole Officers Alvarez, Russell, and Mejia completed the Police Unity Tour Ride from New Jersey to Washington, DC. The Police Unity Tour is an annual charity bicycle ride that raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum, and honors the lives of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
