Last week, many of our officers traveled to Washington, D.C. for National Police Week.

That opportunity was made possible largely because of this incredible community, who supported us through donations and fundraisers beginning last August. For that, we cannot thank you enough.

This week gave us the chance to see the names of Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada which are engraved forever on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall, hold space for them during the Candlelight Vigil, and accompany their families at the National Memorial Service.

It also gave us the opportunity to attend survivor-focused training on grief, healing, and navigating life after a line-of-duty death.

There is not a day that Sgt. Sorensen and Officer Estrada are far from our thoughts.

Thank you for giving us that week — a week dedicated to honoring them, supporting their families, and remembering their sacrifice.

🚨 Scam Alert (with a side of “nice try…”) 🚨

One of our detectives recently received a text message claiming to be from a government agency—you know, the kind that definitely conducts official business through random text messages with suspicious links 🙃

We’ll be sharing a screenshot of the message so you can see exactly what these scams look like.

Here’s the deal:
Government agencies are not going to text you out of the blue demanding payment, threatening arrest, or asking you to click a link to “fix” something immediately. That’s scammer behavior—plain and simple.

🚩 Red flags to watch for:

- Urgent threats (“Pay now or else…”)
- Links you didn’t ask for
- Requests for personal or financial info
- Messages that just feel… off

💡 What to do:

- Don’t click the link
- Don’t respond
- Delete the message
- When in doubt, contact the agency directly using a verified number

Remember: Scammers want you to panic and act fast. We want you to pause, think, and keep your money where it belongs—with you.

Stay safe out there—and if the “government” is texting you like a long-lost friend, it’s probably not them.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Autism Council of Utah for their generous donation of Autism Sensory Bags for each of our officers to keep in their patrol vehicles.

These bags are an incredibly valuable resource for our department and the community we serve. While our officers receive training in recognizing and interacting with individuals on the autism spectrum, every situation is different—and having the right tools readily available can make a meaningful difference.

Each sensory bag includes items designed to support communication and reduce stress during interactions. The picture/letter board can assist individuals who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally, while the fidget toys can provide a way to maintain focus and offer comfort. They also included noise-reducing ear protection, which can help individuals regulate in environments that may feel overwhelming or overstimulating.

Our goal is always to approach every interaction with patience, understanding, and respect. Resources like these help us continue to improve how we serve all members of our community.

Thank you again to the Autism Council of Utah for your support and partnership in helping us better connect with those we serve.
