Part of what makes America great is the opportunity it provides. Many find those opportunities are not available to them in Illinois due to the Progressive Liberal policies of the current Governor and the Democrat policies. It is time for a change. As Chairman of the Tazewell County Republican Central Committee, I would like to congratulate our two $1000 scholarship winners! The Tazewell County Republican Scholarship committee met last Saturday after reviewing all the applications and participated in spirited debate in selecting the winners. They were successful and we are proud to award $1000 to one Tazewell County high school female and $1000 to one Tazewell County high school male.

Due to the nature of the political landscape at this time, we will not release their names but we will say they, and all the applicants, are standout students who we all can be proud of. The Tazewell County, Illinois Republican Party will deposit $1000 into each of their student accounts at the post-high school institution of their choice. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

Illinois sanctuary policies are having a devastating effect on public safety. Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman, was fatally shot on March 19, 2026, in a predawn attack near Tobey Prinz Beach in Chicago. The Tazewell County Republican High School Senior Scholarship submission period is now closed. Thank you to all Tazewell County area high school seniors who submitted an application. A quick review of just a few of the applications tells us this will be a difficult process to select just one male and one female for the $1000 scholarships! The essays alone are incredible. The topic was; Excluding the signing of the Declaration of Independence, what do you feel is the single most impactful event in American history and how did it effect the future of the U.S. and the world?

The scholarship committee will have their work cut out for them and we should have our selections sometime mid to late next week. Tazewell County should be proud of our high school students. I know we are.

We already flooded them with witness slips twice telling them NO but they just won't listen and are trying to sneak it through today. Synopsis As Introduced: Amends the Election Code. Provides that an election authority may elect to mail a vote by mail ballot to all qualified voters instead of sending notices and applications for permanent vote by mail status. Requires the election authority to make a list of all voters to whom the vote by mail ballots will be sent, publicly post that list, and send the list to the State Board of Elections. Provides that a person who has never voted before may not be sent a vote by mail ballot under the provisions unless the person first provides the election authority with sufficient proof of identity and the election authority verifies the person's proof of identity. Provides that a person may request, in writing, to the election authority that the person not receive a ballot sent under the provisions. Provides that the election authority shall keep a record of a person who has made a request and, in all future elections following receipt of the request, shall instead send the person who made the request a notice and application for permanent vote by mail status.

The Primary Election is just a few days away. If you have not voted early, please plan to vote on Tuesday. Not sure who to vote for? To start, VOTE REPUBLICAN! If you still aren't sure about who is running, come in, get a yard sign or two and let's talk politics. I now have signs for all four gubernatorial candidates although I am very limited on Bailey and Heidner.

The Tazewell County Republican headquarters will be open on Saturday, March 14th from 10:00 am to Noon.

The Tazewell County GOP office is located at 127 S. Sampson St., Tremont.
