The Traverse City Arts Commission is thrilled to see our next mural project go up at Bryant Park! The mural, titled “Our Neighborhood Spot” is being completed by local artist Katherine Corden Bellisario.

The mural is part of the Art Commission’s “Art in the Park” initiative, an annual collaboration with the Traverse City Parks and Recreation Commission to fund and install public art in city parks.

Katherine’s mural was selected from over 20 submissions by mural artists from around the county. Originally from Grosse Pointe, and a University of Michigan graduate, Katherine moved to Traverse City in 2019 to begin her family. Now with two young children, Katherine noted she hopes her work will accentuate an already beautiful place she enjoys with friends and family.

Katherine’s paintings have been featured in exhibitions throughout Michigan, Illinois, Alabama and Georgia

We're really pleased with these striking new banners on West Front Street (near North Peak Brewing Company) by local artist Justin Shull. These are part of our "Fresh Perspectives of Downtown" initiative.

Thanks to Britten, Inc. for the fabrication and install, and thanks to Justin for offering his considerable talents for this project.

Be sure to keep an eye out for future calls for artists!

Last night, Arts Commissioners and some friends took to the streets to spice up the large white spaces near the intersections of Front and Pine and Front and Boardman. These spaces were created last fall when traffic patterns were reconfigured during the conversion of State, Pine and Boardman from one-way to two-way traffic. This project was in partnership with the Traverse City DDA.

This beautiful splash of color is a nice upgrade, don't you think?

We're pleased to announce the installment of four new sculptures along the TART Trail. Located just down the hill from the new 10th Street Trailhead, adjacent to the Riverine Apartments, the new sculptures add vibrant new color and energy to this section of the trail.

Michigan Artist David Petrakovitz created the colorful art pieces, some of which are made of recycled railroad materials. The four new sculptures are part of the Arts Commission’s collection of rotating exhibitions, and they replace the Robert Sestok sculptures that were located in this location for the last two years.

The four sculptures, titled “Toobers and Zots”, “Red Shift”, “Botanical Forms” and “The Shape of Things To Come, will be on display until spring of 2023.
