National Donut Day has been a Salvation Army tradition since 1938 — established to honor the volunteers who brought soldiers hope and a taste of home during one of history's darkest times.

During World War I, The Salvation Army DONUT LASSIES
were American volunteers and Salvation Army officers who fried
dough on the front lines in France. To both honor their service
and raise funds for those affected by the Great Depression, The
Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938.

National Donut day is celebrated the first Friday of June every year, and this Friday, June 5th, our team, Advisory Board members, and volunteers will be distributing 52 dozen donuts to fire stations, police stations, 911/Dispatch offices in Grand Traverse, Benzie, and Leelanau counties to thank our emergency workers for their service.

This helps us fund our programs the remaining months until our holiday season begins!
