Groundwork Center

Groundwork Center Economy. Environment. Community. Groundwork is optimistic about Michigan’s future.

Our unparalleled natural resources and our deeply rooted agricultural heritage are assets to be enjoyed and protected. We envision a state with a strong and diversified economy that offers opportunities for people from all walks of life: new jobs throughout the state in clean energy and agriculture; towns and cities that are vibrant, exciting centers of community, arts, culture, and commerce; and

more options to get around with a diverse transportation infrastructure that makes it easy to choose walking, biking, public transit, or access to a well-maintained road network. People will move to Michigan, or return home, to enjoy all the state has to offer and to raise the next generations of bright, industrious, and proud Michiganders. Groundwork is committed to realizing this vision through strategically selected campaigns, initiatives, and projects. We focus our work in northwest Michigan because the region’s entrepreneurial spirit, culture of collaboration, and successful track record of joining economic growth and environmental protection make it a proving ground for innovation and possibility. We believe northwest Michigan will play an essential role in leading the state to prosperity.

Ever thought about who owns your electric company?

If you’re part of a rural electric cooperative, the answer is…YOU!

Co-ops are member-owned, nonprofit utilities created to bring power to rural communities—and they still serve millions of people today. That means you’re not just a customer, you have a voice in how your energy is produced.

And when it comes to clean energy, that voice matters more than ever.

Do you know if you’re part of a co-op?

In case you missed it: The most important election you never heard of? Interlochen Public Radio helps us understand the critical role that boards of rural electric co-ops play in shaping our energy future. Cherryland Electric Elections are now underway—be sure to vote!

It’s election season, but these races you’ve probably never heard of. They could impact your energy bill. Also, state legislatures forgive extra snow days this year.

More pictures from the Line 5 peaceful demonstration this morning at the Great Lakes Drinking Water Conference. We cannot risk the economic and environmental sustenance of the Great Lakes for oil profits—Enbridge would make plenty enough money without Line 5. But thousands upon thousands would lose their livelihoods and businesses after a leak.

A lot of our work around clean energy doesn’t always look flashy.

It looks like conversations.
It looks like maps and data.

It looks like sitting down with communities and asking, “What actually works here?”

Because the goal isn’t just more renewable energy—it’s making sure it’s done in a way that benefits the people who live here.

Cleaner, more affordable power. Thoughtfully planned. Community-driven.

That’s the kind of future we’re working toward.

And it’s something we’re building together. Join in and support this work today: https://groundworkcenter.org/donate-today/
