The Father Fred Foundation is here to ensure that the basic human needs of our neighbors and friends in need are met.We provide food, clothing and household goods, and financial assistance to families in need in our five-county area. In the words of Father Fred himself, we are here to listen, care, share, and above all, provide hope for those who find themselves in difficult times. Our goal is to

ensure that no one in our community falls through the cracks -- and we do all this without accepting any state or federal aid.

Thank you Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) and Central United Methodist Church - Traverse City!

Our SHINE program will be starting soon! SHINE— a partnership with TCAPS distributes summer snack bags, light meals, and hygiene products to students who lack a fixed, regular, or nighttime residence. The packages are distributed by the SUNSHINE bus weekly to several locations. 🌞✨🚌💙

A very sincere thank you to Erica, a Health Care Surveyor, and her fellow colleagues from the State of Michigan Bureau of Survey and Certification for their generous donation of food and hygiene products. Erica contacted us to ask what items were needed most so they could coordinate a giving/collection event for their statewide meeting. Hundreds of Health Care Surveyors from across the state brought donations for our food pantry.

Thank you, Erica, and thank you to everyone who donated! Together, we are making a difference for individuals and families in need. 💙

A huge thank you to Meijer for selecting the Father Fred Foundation for their Simply Give Campaign. Their goal is to help local food pantries combat food insecurity by helping feed local families in need right here in our community.

Thanks to everyone who purchased the donation cards. With your help, the campaign collected $7,960 in donations, which was then combined with Meijer’s Double Match donation of $10,000, bringing the total amount raised to $17,960! These funds will directly support our food pantry to help provide nutritious food to individuals and families who need it most.

Our Back to School Shoe events provide new shoes, socks, school supplies, and vision screenings free of charge to kids walking through grade 12!

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and will take place online. Must reside in one of the 5 counties we serve (Grand Traverse, Benzie, Kalkaska, Antrim, Leelanau), but can register for any event in the four counties where we are holding events.

EVENT DATES:
Benzie County: August 3, 2026
Kalkaska: August 5, 2026
Mancelona: August 7, 2026
Traverse City: August 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2026

A big thank you to the Girl Scouts from Troop 9550 for donating 5 dozen beautiful and delicious cupcakes to Father Fred! The troop learned about cupcake decorating from a professional chef to earn their “Craft & Tinker” badge. Thank you, girls, for sharing your sweet work with us! 💙🧁✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support our GARAGE SALE! While it was bittersweet being our final sale, it was a big success with a wonderful turnout. We enjoyed seeing shoppers of all ages smiling as they discovered unique treasures and fantastic deals!

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who helped make this event possible — from sorting and setting up to working the sale and dedicating countless hours throughout the year collecting, organizing, and preparing items. Your hard work and dedication are truly appreciated!

Because of your support, all proceeds will go directly to our programs serving individuals and families in need across five northern Michigan counties. We are so grateful for our amazing community! 💙
