Good Morning NWLM!!!

As we get ready to enjoy all the delicious food and company, we wanted to send a little reminder to stay safe with the snow coming our way. It looks like we're expecting some real winter weather starting Wednesday evening, so if you're traveling, please take it slow and be careful on those slick roads! 🚗❄️

We hope your day is filled with warmth, laughter, and way too much turkey. Let's all stay cozy indoors and enjoy the snow from the other side of the window! 🥧☕

Warmest wishes to you and your families!

⭐️Did You Know⭐️

The Army Focuses on Work-Life Balance!

The conversation around well-being isn't just in the civilian world—it's a priority in the U.S. Army, too.

* Many active-duty soldiers are granted a "Training Holiday" in conjunction with federal holidays, often creating a four-day weekend.

* This extra time is designed to give soldiers more time for themselves and to spend with friends and family, recognizing that a robust work-life balance is critical.

* In the Army you also earn up to 30 days of paid vacation a year. This allows you extra time to do whatever it is you enjoy doing outside of work

* The Army emphasizes overall health, focusing not only on physical fitness but also on mental and emotional fitness. They understand that a rested, well-rounded soldier is a better soldier.
It’s a great reminder that taking time for rest and self-care is important for everyone!

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend, everyone!

🎃 Stay Safe & Warm This Halloween, NW Michigan! 🎃

The Go Army Traverse City Recruiting Team wants to make sure your trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating or other holiday adventures are safe and fun, both today and tomorrow!

With the cool weather settling in, here are a few extra tips for a great time in your community:

* Layer Up & Stay Warm: Don't let the chilly temperatures cut your fun short! Wear warm clothes under your costume, like long sleeves or thermals. Gloves and hats can easily be added to many outfits! 🧤

* See & Be Seen: Even with trunk-or-treat events, always carry a flashlight or glow stick. If you're walking through neighborhoods, make sure costumes have reflective tape and that you can clearly see through your mask.

* Stay Together: Younger kids should always be with an adult. Stick to organized events or familiar, well-lit areas in neighborhoods.

* Check the Treats: Always wait until you get home to inspect and sort through candy before eating it.

Have a spooktacular and safe celebration, NW Michigan! We hope you and your family have a blast creating great memories.

Buckley Community Schools is honored to announce the Salutatorian of the Class of 2024, Amaya Kauffman.
My name is Amaya Kaufmann, I am the daughter of Matthew Kaufmann and Ashley Mercado. During high school I participated in many things to advance my academics, my values, and to help my community. During my junior and senior years I attended the Career Tech Center in Traverse City in Culinary Arts to advance my life skills. At career tech I was president of the National Technical Honors Society, a public relations officer for Career Tech Student Council, and I have received academic honors both years of my attendance at Career Tech. At my home school I have received multiple academic awards like top Spanish and English student. I was both vice-president and president of the National Honors Society organization, and participated in Student Council my junior year. All of my high school years I have played softball, and I participated in track and field my junior year. I have earned college credits in both Nutrition and Plant Biology and work part-time at the Great Wolf Lodge as a retail attendant. The thing I am most proud of is my volunteer service. I volunteered with TC Paw in Traverse City, assisted in cat adoptions and helped find rescue cats in need of a new home. I have enlisted in the United States Army and am leaving shortly after graduation. My job in the Army is going to be an Animal Care Specialist and my contract is for 4 years. After my 4 years are up, I plan to attend college and get a bachelors in Zoology. I am currently planning on attending Northern Michigan University or Michigan State University, but my plans are subject to change by my Army experience. After my education I would like a career within animal care.
