Grand Traverse County Animal Control

Grand Traverse County Animal Control This page is dedicated to helping lost dogs found by GTCAC Officers reconnect with their owners and to help dogs find loving homes through adoption.

The Grand Traverse County Health Department's (GTCHD) Animal Control Division offers our community services such as dog adoptions, reuniting dogs with their owners, animal welfare checks, kennel inspections, picking up stray dogs, and dog licensing. Our officers also collaborate with area rescues, fosters, and the Cherryland Humane Society to find dogs their forever home.

🐾 Adopt Shadow 🖤🐶

Shadow is a handsome petite 50lb black and tan mixed breed with a big heart just waiting for the right person to share it with. This guy has been thriving in foster care for the last couple of months, where he’s shown everyone just how loyal, fun, and loving he can be.

Shadow enjoys the outdoors and would make an amazing adventure buddy. Whether it’s daily walks, hiking trails, or splashing around in the water, he’s happiest when he gets to explore with his people. He also does well with other animals, making him a great addition to a home with furry companions.

Like many dogs, Shadow takes a little time to build trust. He tends to warm up to women faster than men, but once he knows you, he’s completely devoted and “all in.” His foster has seen him blossom into a sweet, affectionate companion who just wants love and stability.

Shadow is looking for a patient, caring home that will give him the time he needs to settle in and continue building confidence. In return, you’ll get a loyal best friend who will be by your side through every adventure.

Could Shadow be the missing piece to your family? 🐶💙

📞 Reach out to us at 231-995-6080 for more information about adopting Shadow. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm negative. His adoption fee is $100

Meet Rambo 🤍🛋️

Rambo is a 7-year-old white pit mix who has officially retired from any unnecessary athletic activity and is now accepting applications for a full-time couch companion position. He’s neutered, sweet, and ready to spend his golden years perfecting the art of relaxing.

His hobbies include:

supervising snack time
vacuuming up anything edible that hits the floor
lounging like it’s an Olympic sport
giving happy smiles to his people

Rambo isn’t looking for marathon runs or wilderness adventures. He’s looking for a soft place to nap, some good snacks, and humans who appreciate a low-key best friend.

He still enjoys walks and hanging out, but his main goal in life is comfort and companionship. If you’ve ever wanted a dog who believes every couch belongs to both of you, Rambo is your guy.

He’s got that classic pittie charm — affectionate, goofy, loyal, and always nearby in case cheese accidentally falls on the floor.

Rambo would love:

A calm, loving home
Cozy blankets and a comfy couch
Snacks (obviously)
People who appreciate a mature dog over puppy chaos

If you’re looking for a laid-back companion with a big smile and an even bigger heart, Rambo is ready to move in and start his couch potato career immediately.

Rambo's adoption fee is $100. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, Heartworm negative, and microchipped. He has lived with other dogs. If you would like to schedule a meet n greet with Rambo, please call us at 231-995-6080.

Meet Willow ❄️💙

Willow is Skye’s equally gorgeous sister — a white husky with striking ice-blue eyes, about a year and a half old, already spayed, and friendly with other dogs. She’s sweet, social, and happy to make canine friends wherever she goes.

And just like her sister… Willow comes with a full-time husky brain. Which means:

selective hearing
endless curiosity
random bursts of energy
getting distracted halfway through whatever she was doing

She’s basically powered by enthusiasm and vibes.

Willow will need a home that understands huskies aren’t “easy dogs.” She’s active, smart in her own chaotic way, and will absolutely need exercise, structure, patience, and training. If you’re expecting instant obedience because she’s pretty, Willow would like to respectfully ignore that request and go investigate a leaf instead.

The good news? She’s friendly, young, and has tons of potential. With consistency and the right home, she could grow into an amazing adventure buddy and loyal companion.

Willow would thrive with:

An active home
A secure yard or regular exercise routine
Someone experienced with high-energy breeds (or willing to learn)
Another playful dog friend

If you love huskies for their personalities as much as their looks, Willow might be your perfect match. She’s beautiful, goofy, affectionate, and just the right amount of chaos.

Willow's adoption fee is $100. She is fixed, UTD on vaccines, Heartworm negative, and microchipped. If you are interested in meeting Willow, please call us at 231-995-6080 to set up a meet and greet.

Meet Skye 🤍🐺

Skye is a stunning white husky, about a year and a half old, and already spayed. She’s friendly, social with other dogs, and always ready to make new friends.

Now for the honest part: Skye is very much still a husky puppy in an adult body. She doesn’t really “know stuff” yet — basic manners and training are going to be a fresh start for her. She’s active, curious, distractible, and not exactly known for making great listening choices. If you’ve had huskies before, you already know they come with opinions and selective hearing built in.

She’ll need:

A patient home committed to training
Daily exercise and mental stimulation
Secure fencing (huskies love adventure) or long leash walks
Someone who understands that beautiful dogs can also be chaotic little gremlins sometimes

In return, you’ll get a goofy, affectionate, high-energy companion with movie-star looks and a lot of personality. Skye has a ton of potential — she just needs someone willing to put in the work and laugh along the way.

If you want an easy, perfectly trained couch dog, she probably isn’t your girl. If you want a fun project and a loyal best friend, Skye might be exactly who you’re looking for.

Skye's adoption fee is $100. She is fixed, UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped. Please Call 231-995-6080 to set up a meet n greet with Skye.
