Donald Trump doesn’t have an accomplishment problem. Republicans have an information problem. It’s on each of us to change that.

239 years ago today.

On September 17, 1787, thirty-nine delegates signed the Constitution at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia. Four months of argument, four handwritten pages, and no guarantee that any of it would hold.

It held. In 239 years it has been amended 27 times — the first ten of them ratified in a single batch in 1791 because several states would not sign on without them.

Michigan has written four constitutions of its own in that time: 1835, 1850, 1908, and the one still in force, ratified in 1963.

Every office on your November 3 ballot exists because one of those documents created it. The governor's office, the seat in Congress, the county sheriff and the county clerk, the Michigan Supreme Court — each one traces back to a line someone argued over and then wrote down.

Worth reading the original at least once. It takes about half an hour: constitution.congress.gov

🔴 LIVE NOW: Hear John James make the case for Michigan.

Detroit PBS is livestreaming today’s Detroit Economic Club event with the two 2026 gubernatorial nominees.

Congressman John James and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson each get solo time on stage. James will have the chance to lay out a clear contrast: lower taxes, less government control, and a state that works for families and businesses again — not more of the same.

If you want to hear the Republican nominee for governor speak for himself — not through attack ads — this is the time.

Share it. Watch it. Let’s make sure Michigan hears the conservative case.

Meet Judge Casandra Morse-Bills — Tuesday, September 22

Judge Casandra Morse-Bills, Republican nominee for the Michigan Supreme Court, is coming to Traverse City, and we would like you to meet her.

Tuesday, September 22
4:00 – 5:00 PM
GT GOP Action Center, 1744 S. Garfield Ave.
Free — light refreshments served

Judge Morse-Bills is the Presiding Judge of Michigan's 23rd Judicial Circuit, hearing Probate, District and Circuit Court cases across Alcona, Arenac, Iosco and Oscoda counties. She was first elected to the bench in 2018 and re-elected in 2024. Before that she served as Oscoda County Prosecuting Attorney and ran her own practice. She also sits on the Michigan Judicial Council, which produced Michigan's first statewide judicial strategic plan.

One thing worth knowing before you vote: Michigan Supreme Court candidates are nominated by the parties at convention, but they appear in the nonpartisan section of the ballot — usually on the back. You will not find her in the Republican column, so remember to flip your ballot over.

Casandra welcomes your questions and looks forward to meeting you. Bring a question, stay for coffee.

Questions? Michelle Davis, (231) 943-4870

Absentee ballots go out September 24. Everything on the list happens before then, or just after.
