A huge thank you to The Concrete Service, Inc. for their generous donation of pea gravel for our raptor enclosures. Contributions like this help us provide safe, clean, and healthy spaces for the birds in our care.

We would also like to recognize our amazing volunteers who dedicated their time and hard work to spreading and installing the gravel. Their commitment and willingness to help make projects like this possible.

Community partnerships and volunteer support are at the heart of what we do, and we are grateful for everyone who helped improve our facilities for the benefit of the raptors we serve.

Thank you, The Concrete Service Inc. and our volunteers, for helping us create better habitats for the birds and strengthen our mission of rehabilitation, education, and conservation.

Today, a sick Bald Eagle from Leelanau County was brought into our care. We want to thank the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Natural Resources Department for their assistance in helping coordinate this rescue and transport.

Our team is now working to stabilize him and determine the cause of his condition. Cases like this remind us how important wildlife rehabilitation is for the birds that share our region.

Caring for an eagle is intensive and costly, from medical treatment and diagnostics to daily supportive care. If you would like to help give this eagle a chance at recovery, please consider making a donation to support his care and the many other raptors that depend on us each year.

Every contribution makes a difference.

Thank you to the The Petoskey Stone Festival for a wonderful weekend, and thank you to everyone who stopped by the Skegemog Raptor Center booth!

We loved meeting so many people, sharing our mission, and talking about raptor conservation and education. Your support and enthusiasm mean so much to us, and we’re grateful for everyone who visited. We’re already looking forward to next year!

On Sunday, the Maple City Bald Eagle returned to the wild after weeks of intensive treatment and rehabilitation for severe lead poisoning.

Under dark skies and stormy weather, the eagle left his carrier, circled the field at Myles Kimmerly Park, briefly landed on a nearby hill, and then disappeared into the woods where he perched safely in a tree for cover.

This eagle arrived in critical condition, unable to fly and suffering from dangerously high lead levels. His recovery required multiple rounds of chelation therapy, supportive medical treatment, conditioning flights, diagnostics, and extensive monitoring.

If you would like to support future rescues and rehabilitation efforts, please consider making a donation today:

We would also like to thank our dedicated volunteers, Brookside Veterinary Hospital, Bob Foote for consulting on vision-related concerns, LTBB Archie Kiogima Jr.-ba Migizi Aviary and Rehabilitation Center for assisting with flight assessment, and our friends Tom and Riley Peters for assisting with the release.

As admissions and treatment costs continue to rise, community support is critical to sustaining this work. Every rescue, diagnostic test, rehabilitation plan, and release depends on people willing to step forward and help make it possible.

This eagle flew free because people chose to help.
