Update - Promontory Fire - 1:30 PM

Firefighters continue to make progress at the Promontory Fire incident. Following a productive meeting yesterday with Medline representatives and Tracy Fire staff, plans were developed to move recovery operations forward.

An excavation company was secured and began work this morning, removing portions of the exterior walls of the Medline facility. This will provide firefighters with better access to address remaining hotspots and smoldering areas on the interior of the building.

While smoke has significantly decreased and continues to dissipate, some smoldering remains. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local air quality through county agencies. (Links below)

Road closures remain in effect, and there is no public access to the facility at this time. Please avoid the area if possible and do not touch any fire-related debris that may have settled in your yard or neighborhood.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation. Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.

Update - Promontory Fire - 9:00 AM

South San Joaquin County Fire Authority Fire Chief, Randall Bradley provided a press update this morning at 8:00 am.

As of this morning, forward progress at the Medline Fire remains steady. Crews remain on scene and are working hard to extinguish the fire on the interior of the east side of the Medline building. The Fire Marshal continues to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Tracy Fire personnel are currently meeting with company representatives, structural engineers and various industry professionals to assess the situation. Safety remains our number one concern and priority as the company assesses the best plan of action moving forward for employees to gain access and retrieve any vehicles left at the site.

We anticipate that there will continue to be heavy smoke in the area over the next few days - residents, especially those who are sensitive to air conditions, are urged to stay indoors, keep doors and windows closed and seek medical attention if you are experiencing any illness due to smoke. Resources for air quality can be found below.

Lastly, we remind residents to avoid touching, moving, or removing any debris from the fire. City crews will continue working on street cleanup to remove any debris from the fire.

Due to the steady progress, no future press conferences are scheduled at this time - however, the situation will continue to be monitored and any updates will be posted on social media.

We remind the community to avoid the area of the incident and yield to all emergency personnel. There will continue to be heavy apparatus presence over the next few days.

Updates will continue to be provided to the community as they become available.

Thank you to our community, all first responders, mutual aid and support agencies for your support.

Update - Promontory Fire - 5:30 PM

At 5:00 PM this afternoon, Incident Commander/ Deputy Fire Chief Bagley, Mayor Ariola, and Sergeant Richards held a press conference to provide the community with an update on response and recovery efforts.

The main fire at the Main Line facility is fully contained. Fire crews remain on scene and will continue working to extinguish remaining fire activity and monitor the area.

The primary concern remains ember casting and airborne debris from the Medline facility fire. Crews continue to monitor hotspots throughout the affected area. All subsequent spot fires have been extinguished and surrounding areas continue to be monitored. Multiple mutual aid agencies that were working secondary fires have been released to return to their respective jurisdictions.

Air Quality: Residents may continue to experience smoke and airborne particulates. We encourage everyone to monitor local conditions and follow guidance from the San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District, especially those who are sensitive to smoke.

Debris Safety: Fire-related debris remains a concern. Residents are strongly urged not to touch, move, or handle any debris found in their neighborhoods. City crews are actively sweeping affected areas and removing debris and will continue these efforts. Until cleanup is complete, please stay away from any debris and report concerns to local authorities.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation. The next media update is scheduled for 8:00 am tomorrow (Saturday, June 13th) provided conditions remain stable. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Update - Promontory Fire - 9:30 am

Progress on the Promontory Fire remains steady.
Firefighters continue suppression efforts at the Medline warehouse, and the fire is currently contained to that facility. The nearby FedEx facility sustained damage to the exterior of the building; however, crews were successful in protecting the structure, and it is considered stable at this time.

Fire crews will remain on scene throughout the day and night to monitor and extinguish hotspots. Tracy Fire personnel are rotating back to their stations, while mutual aid agencies will continue to provide city coverage and rotate resources through the Promontory Fire incident.

Several air monitoring stations have been established in and around the incident area. Continuous air monitoring is occurring and based on that data, no protective actions are required at this time. However, sensitive groups—including children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions—are encouraged to remain indoors and avoid exposure to smoke whenever possible.

Our primary concern remains ember cast from the Medline facility. Crews will continue monitoring the area and quickly address any spot fires that may develop.

The incident area remains closed to the public. Access is restricted to emergency personnel only. Please avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently.

We appreciate the continued support and cooperation from our community.

Update - Promontory Fire - 7:05 PM

Crews remain on scene at the Promontory Fire in the area of Promontory and Hansen Roads. Multiple mutual aid agencies are on scene with an estimated total of 200 fire personnel, and approximately 100 additional support personnel to cover multiple incidents in the area (2 commercial warehouse fires and multiple smaller grass fires)

Crews continue to battle the fire and smoke at the Medline Warehouse, which is considered a total loss. An additional fire broke out at the nearby FedEx warehouse, with pallets and multiple big rig trailers catching fire. Crews performed an aggressive fire attack to bring that fire under control. The exterior of that building did catch fire, however, personnel were able to keep the fire from engulfing the building.

City of Tracy fire stations remain fully staffed, with neighboring agencies covering our jurisdiction. We encourage the public to continue avoiding the area and yield to all emergency personnel. There is still heavy emergency response presence and heavy smoke in the air; residents in the immediate area should continue to shelter in place.

The City of Tracy’s City Manager has declared a local state of emergency - this does not change the status update or situation, however helps to ensure that all available resources and emergency response capabilities are available to provide assistance. We will continue to monitor and update as necessary.

Early this evening, Tracy Fire crews responded to a 2nd alarm structure fire in the 100 block of W. 4th Street in Tracy. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire involving two RVs and a shed, with fire extension to nearby homes.

The RVs and the shed were destroyed, and two residences sustained damage. Firefighters worked aggressively to contain the fire and protect surrounding properties. The fire was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes.

A total of eight apparatus, 25 personnel, and two chief officers responded to the incident. Tracy Fire was assisted by our mutual aid partner, the Defense Logistics Agency Fire Department. While crews operated at the scene, station coverage for the Tracy community was provided by Manteca Fire Department and Lathrop-Manteca Fire District.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
