Composting is easy and reduces one of the largest sources of Greenhouse Gases in the County: methane in landfills.

When organic materials break down in landfills, they produce methane: a powerful greenhouse gas. Composting helps reduce waste while creating nutrient-rich soil for gardens and landscaping.

Watershed Wednesday💧

Fertilizer helps plants grow, but when too much washes off lawns and gardens, it can end up in our streams and rivers.

Rain can carry excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, into local waterways, where they fuel algal growth. These algae blooms can reduce oxygen in the water, harming fish, crabs, and other aquatic life.

A few simple steps can help protect our waterways:
🌱 Use fertilizer only when needed
🔍 Follow label instructions carefully
🌧️ Avoid applying before heavy rain
🧹 Sweep fertilizer off sidewalks and driveways back onto the lawn

When cigarette butts are left on the ground, wildlife may be harmed if they mistake them for food. 🐶🚬

Filters contain toxins that can harm birds, fish, and other animals. These little butts can cause big problems. Proper disposal keeps these harmful items out of our streams and habitats.

Watershed Wednesday💧

Do you know rain barrels can help reduce stormwater runoff?

Collecting rainwater helps prevent excess water from rushing into storm drains and nearby streams during storms. It also provides free water for your garden.
