Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors from Double Springs Fire Dept and the Lamattina family after the tragic loss of one of their members, Anthony (Tony) Lamattina yesterday. He was always a pleasure to work with on incident scenes. 🙏

Today, we remember all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you, we will remember.

This morning, Townville VFD responded with a crew of 4 on Rescue 17 to assist the Town of McCormick Fire, McCormick County Emergency Services, and numerous other surrounding agencies for a commercial structure fire at the McCormick County Schools complex. The fire was located in the gym and involved multiple layers of roofing material. The cause is likely due to a lightening strike. The TVFD responded as part of the SC Firefighters Mobilization Program, bringing crews from various parts of the state to assist. We arrived as the incident was winding down. Rescue 17 then relocated to McCormick County Emergency Services HQ to help with call coverage and clean up. As a thunderstorm was hitting the area, a commercial box alarm was dispatched to a nearby apartment complex. Rescue 17 responded with the other assigned apparatus. Crews checked the structure with no fire located. Soon after, R17 returned to Townville. Great job to all the responding agencies to the initial fire keeping it from becoming a catastrophic event for the school system. Also, thanks to all those at the state level for the implementation and continued coordination of the SC State Firefighter Mobilization plan. This is yet another example of how our state’s fire service quickly and effectively supports one another in major incidents. Credit to Laurens County Fire Service and Abbeville Fire Coordinator JT Bass for several of the pictures.

This morning TVFD members went down to the Anderson Fire Service Training Facility for some live burn and search and rescue training. We were joined by several firefighters from Edgewood Station 6 in Abbeville County and a Firefighter I class being taught at Seneca Fire Department. Students in the class were from Friendship (Oconee), Seneca, and Homeland Park. It was great to train with folks we might not necessarily see on a normal incident. However, we all have the same desire and drive to serve our communities wherever they may be. Thanks to everyone that came out to assist, and those who came to train and better themselves and their departments.

Public Notice – Andersonville Island Fire (Lake Hartwell)

Crews from the South Carolina Forestry Commission are currently on scene at
Andersonville Island conducting controlled back burning operations to contain a wildfire and prevent it from spreading across the entire island.

This is an active, managed response, and the fire is expected to continue burning over the next several days as part of containment efforts.

For your safety, please stay away from Andersonville Island and avoid the surrounding area on the water. This allows emergency personnel to operate safely and effectively.

Please do not call 911 to report this fire unless there is an immediate threat to life or safety.
