The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed a lawsuit against the Bergen County Board of Elections after the county refused to comply with an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request for poll worker information from the 2025 General Election.
The RNC wanted a list of all poll workers, including their political party affiliation and any vacancies at early voting and Election Day locations, information that is important for ensuring bipartisan representation at polling places under New Jersey law.
Sixteen other New Jersey counties provided the requested lists without issue, but Bergen County denied the request, citing vague “security” exemptions and failed to respond within the statutorily required 10-day period.
The RNC argues that the denial was unlawful and that transparency in poll worker assignments strengthens trust in election administration and ensures compliance with state law.
