Citizens for Safe Courts and Kids In the late 1960’s, St. In 1972, the county opened a new Civil Court Building and garage located at 7900 Carondelet Avenue.

Louis County government set in motion a project to design and build new Civil and Family Courts facilities to serve the needs of the county. This facility stands adjacent to the County’s Administration Building and directly across the street from the County’s Buzz Westfall Criminal Justice Center…

…and a Family Court and Juvenile Detention Facility located at 501 South Brentwood Boulevard… at th

e very northern corner of the Corporate Park Office complex bordering Forest Park Parkway. In 1970, while the existing courts facilities were being constructed, 23,587 cases were adjudicated. Certainly a large number but the new building designs would allow for these cases loads. When completed in 1972, they were more than capable of taking care of the then justice system’s needs. However, times have changed and those once modern, state-of-the-art facilities have fallen victim to the onslaught of time and the demands imposed by a post 9-11 world. In 2010, more than 103,000 cases were handled in these same facilities…a four-fold increase. What were once efficient houses of justice have become ensnarled in security imposed restrictions, unsafe working conditions, growing demands for increased technology capabilities, outmoded and unrepairable infrastructure and the pressures of a community that is more involved, positively or negatively, in the criminal justice system than ever before. As you will see on www.safecourtsandkids.org, we need to rebuild and upgrade our facilities to serve those in need…and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
