The Area Agency on Aging is a community planning agency and an advocate and facilitator of activism among the aging. Also, it is a promoter of services which held the aging stay at home in the community as an alternative to nursing home care and other forms of institutional living. We attempt to enhance independence and self-sufficiency to allow older persons to remain in their own homes as long a

đź’ś June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and today we join communities around the world in recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible B/S/S/T AAA staff and our Active Living Center participants for proudly wearing purple in support of older adults. Your commitment helps shine a light on an issue that too often goes unseen.

Awareness is powerful. A single conversation can open eyes, change perspectives, and prevent harm. Elder abuse can affect anyone, and it is up to all of us to stay alert, speak up, and support those who may not be able to protect themselves.

Elder abuse can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. By staying informed and recognizing the warning signs, we can protect our older adults who have given so much to our communities.

If you suspect elder abuse, please call the Area Agency on Aging at 1 800-982-4346. Your call could be the first step in protecting someone who cannot protect themselves.

đź’ś Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can make a difference.

June is recognized as Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and June 15 is observed as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a time to stand together in support of older adults in our communities.

The B/S/S/T Area Agency on Aging’s Protective Services Unit investigates reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment across Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Tioga Counties.

Awareness is one of the strongest tools we have to prevent elder abuse.

Elder abuse can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Prevention is a shared responsibility, and recognizing the warning signs can save lives.

Warning Signs of Elder Abuse
•Unexplained injuries — bruises, burns, fractures, or repeated “accidents”
•Behavior changes — withdrawal, fearfulness, anxiety, or depression
•Poor hygiene — unclean clothing, unsafe living conditions, untreated medical needs
•Sudden financial changes — missing funds, unusual withdrawals, new “friends” handling money
•Isolation — not being allowed to see or speak with others
•Missing items — valuables, documents, or personal belongings disappearing.

If you suspect elder abuse, call the B/S/S/T Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-982-4346. Your call could be the first step in protecting someone who cannot protect themselves.

Help raise awareness by wearing purple on June 15 in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

A small gesture can spark conversations — and conversations lead to prevention.
