Local 1567 would like to remind community members to remain vigilant and practice safe driving habits, as our members have recently noted an increase in distracted driving and unsafe road behaviors.
​For the safety of our first responders and the public, please remember the proper protocol when an emergency vehicle approaches:
​Pull Over to the Right: If you see a police car, ambulance, or fire truck responding with lights and sirens, safely pull over to the right side of the road and come to a complete stop.
​Avoid Sudden Hazards: Stopping abruptly in the middle of the lane, pulling into oncoming traffic, or attempting to outpace an emergency vehicle creates severe safety risks for everyone on the road.
​Be Mindful of Vehicle Weight: Fire apparatus weigh between 40,000 and 80,000 pounds. Due to their immense size, these vehicles require significantly more time and distance to come to a complete stop. Please avoid pulling out directly into their path.
​We all share the goal of reaching our destinations safely. Thank you for doing your part, obeying traffic laws, and helping us protect those who protect you.

On Thursday, June 4th, Local 1567's members joined the Torrington Police Department in the Special Olympics Torch run. The Special Olympics Torch run started in 1981 and to date has raised over $1 Billion in funds to help Special Olympics athletes train, obtain health screening and provide competition opportunities. Local 1567's members are thankful for the opportunity to once again join the Torrington Police Department in this event.

MULTIPLE HIGH PRIORTIY CALLS
Local 1567's members kept busy on Wednesday, June 3rd. All companies were dispatched to College Ave for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, the occupant told firefighters that he smelled smoke in the residence and found a fire burning up the side of the house. The residents quick actions saved further damage. Members assigned to Engines 1 and 2 and Truck 1 performed overhaul to confirm no fire had extended further into the structure, ventilated the smoke and toxic gasses from the residence before turning the scene over to the Fire Marshal's Office.

Just after lunch, District 1, Engine 1, Truck 1 and Tac 9 were dispatched to East Main Street for a reported multiple vehicle collision with a car reported to have rolled over and the occupants trapped. Upon District 1's arrival one vehicle was found on its roof with another seriously damaged vehicle nearby. Quick acting bystanders were able to remove the driver from the vehicle. Engine 1 operated in scene for a short time to assist in clearing the scene and removing hazards.

Local 1567's members would like to commend the quick thinking and decisive action exhibited by citizens in not only containing a fire but also in stepping up to help others in their time of need. Good work!

MUTUAL AID FIRE and BIG THANKS TO OUR CITIZENS

Local 1567's members would once again thank everyone who showed up and spoke in support of the fire department budget on Monday and Tuesday, we truly appreciate your support and we will continue strive to provide you the highest level of life and property protection.

At approximately 0203, Local 1567's members assigned to Group 1's Engine 2 and District 1 were dispatched mutual aid to Harwinton for a commercial structure fire. Members operated on scene for approximately 1 hour, working to extinguish and overhaul the fire. 5 off duty firefighters were recalled to work to continue providing protection to the city.

KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM.
Local 1567's members are asking for the publics continued help today the 18th and Tuesday the 19th City Council and Board of Finance meetings. Monday's meeting begins at 630PM and Tuesday is at 630 PM!

Local 1567's members would truly appreciate the continued public assistance to secure our budget, which would allow day time staffing of 3 firefighters at the Torringford Station on the city's east side.

Local 1567 would like to thank everyone who attended the police vs firefighters basketball game as well as the Local 1567 vs Local 773 game and donated to the CT Burn Care Foundation. We were able to raise over $2800. Thank you again!
