****ROAD CLOSURE, ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION****
This morning at approximately 10:30 hrs, TorringtonPolice were dispatched to the area of Kennedy Dr. and Torringford West St., for a reported motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival officers observed a Northwest Connecticut Transit bus had been struck by a Nissan Rogue in the front passenger side area of the vehicle. As a result of the impact the transit bus struck a nearby telephone pole causing the pole break. Operators of both vehicles, as well as a single passenger in the bus were transported to area hospitals with non life threatening conditions. The vehicles were later removed form the scene. The accident and pending enforcement action is still pending at this time.
Because of the damage to the pole and low hanging wires, Kennedy Dr. eastbound is currently being detoured onto Knollwood, Torringford West St. southbound is being detoured down Kennedy Dr., Torringford West St., northbound is being detoured onto Charles St., and Dibble St., westbound is being detoured toward Durand. In short, if you don't need to be in the area, try to avoid it as there will be traffic congestion until crews can access and clear the damage.

As the school year comes to a close, it was great to spend some time with the high school students outside the classroom on the field. Earlier today, Officer Marens joined a group of Torrington High School students for a friendly game of football to celebrate the end of another successful school year.

Building positive relationships with our youth is an important part of community policing. Moments like these provide an opportunity to connect, have fun, and strengthen the trust that helps make our community a better place for everyone.

We wish all students a safe, enjoyable, and well-deserved summer break. Congratulations on another year of hard work and achievement!

Way to go Officer Marens!

On May 25, 2026, despite the rain, members of the community gathered alongside the Torrington Police Department to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The willingness of so many to stand in the rain served as a powerful reminder that the service and sacrifice of our fallen heroes will never be forgotten.

Today, the Torrington Police Department joins our community in honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer — it is a solemn reminder of the cost of the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Here in Torrington, our War Memorial Wall stands as a permanent tribute to the sacrifice of those who never came home. The names etched there represent courage, duty, and devotion to country that can never be repaid. We ask everyone today to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by the servicemen and women from our community and across this nation.

To all Gold Star families and those carrying the loss of a loved one, we remember with you today.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Congratulations to Officers Gallagher and Stevens on successfully graduating from the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) Instructor Course on Friday, May 22.

Over five demanding days, the course challenged participants both mentally and physically through advanced bicycle handling, vehicular cycling, maintenance instruction, night operations, classroom presentations, and instructor-level testing. Candidates were required to demonstrate flawless riding technique, strong teaching ability, and a commitment to officer and public safety throughout the program.

This achievement reflects their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to expanding their skills in order to better serve the community and assist in the continued development of our bike patrol program.

Great work by both officers on representing the department with professionalism and determination. Congratulations again on this accomplishment. 🚴‍♂️ -Capt. Johnson
