People for SoCal Secession

People for SoCal Secession PSCS (People for SoCal Secession) advocate the creation of a new state of South California.

People for SoCal Secession is a group originally founded on MySpace in 2005, gathering people together from all political persuasions who were fed up with not being properly represented by the overbearing government of Sacramento. This group is NOT affiliated with, nor was it created in response to, the proposed secession plan by Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone.

This is partially why we think would be much better than six. While Republicans would benefit short term, the six states would end up giving a lot more clout to Democrats. Three Californias would give one state to the R's, one to the D's, and leave one very competitive battleground state.

The partition proposal is an extreme long shot, but it is irresistible to ponder the implications, including more clout for Hispanics.

Great little analysis from the head honcho (and by head honcho, I mean me!):

"A good idea, and if I'm voting on it, I'll vote yes; but honestly? Six is way too many! Keep Jefferson as it is, merge NorCal, Silicon, and the north half of CentCal and make that North California, then merge the rest of West, South, and the southern half of CentCal into South California. I think would be much easier to partition and work out logistics on than six. ESPECIALLY when a state border would go smack dab in the middle of a metropolitan area! "

In due time, we'll come up with a compare/contrast of vs. on whatever advantages there are between the two. Provided I can find time outside of work.

Venture capitalist behind measure says state as big as California needs to be broken up to be more representative and more competitive

I would much rather see our layout for South California than the "Republicans Only" SCa that Jeff Stone wanted, but it's still an interesting map to look at.

Sixteen places that want to become the 51st state.

Did you know?: If South California, as we have it laid out in our proposed boundary, was its own state during the 2008 Presidential Election, it would have been worth 36 Electoral Votes? 2 for its Senators, and 34 for its Congressional districts. Here's how SoCalers went to the polls back then:

Obama (D): 4,830,569 (58.31%)
McCain (R): 3,300,277 (39.84%)
Nader (PF): 63,599 (0.77%)
Barr (L): 42,746 (0.52%)
Keyes (AI): 25,180 (0.3%)
McKinney (G): 22,261 (0.27%)

So if South California was a "Winner Take All" state, Obama would have earned all 36 electoral votes... BUT, if South California used the "Maine-Nebraska Method" (2 for statewide win & 1 for each Congressional district won), Obama would get 28 electoral votes, and McCain would end up with 8.

Now don't anticipate something of this level come this election. The numbers in November will probably be a lot closer, and prove that South California, when (not if) it becomes its own state, will be the most treasured battleground state in the land!

Oh goodness, gracious! I didn't even realize it's been a year+ since I've posted up in the group! *Shakes head in shame* Allow me to rectify that by saying that yes, we're not dead yet! Just simply getting real life feet back on the ground after a very shaky past year. Do not be afraid! I will return soon with posts, stats, and rants very soon! And a fair warning... there may also be ponies.

Don't worry folks. I haven't fallen off the Earth... yet. :P Just been having a lot of personal things going on that's been taking up a lot of time. Fret not, my vision of a free SoCal is still on my mind, and still hopefully on yours as well.

Turns out he's just flapping his big jaw to get attention. After reading his "proposal," all he had was just a line in the sand. No substance whatsoever. So he gets attention, while we, people who WANT a new state, are shoved to the side AGAIN. But stay tuned, I'll be finishing a note on what I saw was the biggest flaws in his plan, and why this group has a better idea.

Riverside Supervisor Jeff Stone sets proposal for new state aside, wins approval Tuesday to host summit on how to make the state function better.

Another "What If" photo has been loaded up onto our page. How would you feel if you saw this sign while driving in from Arizona? Assuming that the Poppy was still our state flower, of course. Though personally I'm leaning toward the California Bush Sunflower.

We've just loaded up a new picture of a possible flag design for South California. A pretty basic design, with what could be the state tree. Something that you can definitely see flying on a pole; hopefully in the near future.
