Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month (celebrated Sept. 15 - Oct. 15), our schools were vibrant hubs of learning, storytelling, and joy as students and staff honored the rich traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latino cultures.

Our district united to celebrate with a variety of activities, including guest speakers, creative "Paint My Culture" days, and inspiring cultural showcases.

Thank you to our dedicated educators, student leaders, and guest speakers for making Hispanic Heritage Month a meaningful experience for all!

Students at Anza, Wood, Lincoln, and Victor Elementary Schools recently enjoyed a fun, hands-on Farmers Market experience right on the school grounds!

Through an exciting partnership with local farm organizations Aziz Farms and Food 4 Thought, our students met local farmers, learned where their food comes from, how fresh produce is grown, and why healthy eating matters.

Best of all, every student toured the interactive stands, discovered new fruits and vegetables, and received a bag of fresh, locally grown produce home to share with their families!

Thank you to Aziz Farms, Food 4 Thought, and our Nutrition Services team for bringing fresh agriculture, nutrition education, and healthy habits directly to our students! 🚜 🫛

Our Edison Elementary 5th graders recently wrapped up an unforgettable three-day STEAM Experience at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH)!

Hosted by the Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE), students took on the "Comics for Change" project, using Apple’s Keynote app to create original digital comics that address important topics like mental health, stress, and self-esteem. Through hands-on storytelling, technology, and design, they used their creativity to spark positive change.

To top it all off, our students got a firsthand taste of college life during a guided campus tour. Led by CSUDH student technicians and staff, the visit left our fifth graders empowered, excited, and already imagining their futures on a university campus, with a few even sharing, "I want to come here for college!"

A huge thank you to CSUDH and CISE for hosting such a meaningful, inspiring experience for our Torrance Unified students! 💙🎒

Back to School Nights are in full swing across our district! As we complete our first month of classes, we're excited to welcome parents and families onto our campuses, into classrooms, and into the seats where their students learn every day.

These events are such a great way to meet our dedicated teachers, who have been doing an impressive job connecting with families and sharing what the year ahead holds. In some classrooms, students even left sweet, "old school" handwritten notes on their desks for their parents to find, and then parents had a chance to write back!

A huge thank you to our incredible PTAs for sharing the importance of membership, and to staff and volunteers for working the always popular Scholastic Book Fairs that bring extra energy to these nights. Most of all, thank you to all the parents and family members who took the time to show up, engage, and partner with us to benefit your child(ren)!

Last year, over 5,000 virtual and in-person walkers joined our district team and raised vital funds that went directly back to our schools through the Torrance Education Foundation.

Whether you walk in person, participate virtually, or join your school’s PTA, club, or athletic team, every registration increases support for Torrance Unified students and programs.

Ten of our schools have earned statewide recognition for their outstanding work in implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) during the past school year!

Presented by the California PBIS Coalition, these awards acknowledge schools that implement the PBIS framework with fidelity, creating safe, supportive, and positive campus cultures where students thrive academically and socially. Achieving this recognition requires rigorous self-assessments, data verification, external site visits, and comprehensive mental health support planning.

Our 2026 PBIS Award winners are:✨

Platinum: Carr Elementary (Torrance Unified's first-ever Platinum recipient!)

The application window for the South Bay Consortium Teacher Residency Program is officially closing on September 18!

Through this unique partnership between Torrance, Lawndale, and Wiseburn Unified School Districts, you can earn your Master’s degree and teaching credential in just one year while gaining hands-on classroom experience with a mentor teacher.

Program Highlights:

Financial Support: Receive a $40,000 residency stipend, a 20% National University tuition discount, and access to additional grants/scholarships.

Credentials Offered: Programs available in Dual Immersion Bilingual Spanish (K-8), Special Education, and Single Subject Math or Science.

Yesterday, our staff team opened doors across our district to welcome back our incredible students. From high-energy welcome tunnels to joyful reunions with friends and teachers, each school celebrated the first day of school in its own special way!

At every school, families experienced enthusiasm, smiles, and a sense of community. A huge thank you to our parents, educators, administrators, and support teams who helped make the first day smooth, safe, and memorable for everyone.

As we continue celebrating the incredible staff getting us ready for the first day of school, today we want to spotlight our extraordinary Maintenance & Operations (M&O) team!

Our M&O crew spent the summer transforming our schools to ensure every campus is safe, welcoming, and inspiring for students and staff. From completing major facility upgrades to adding creative finishing touches, their hard work can be seen all across our district:

Campus Transformations: Completed our district-wide painting project, which means every school in Torrance Unified has been freshly painted over the last four years!

Upgrades: Replaced roofs, pavers, and asphalt district-wide.

Safety & Modernization: Installed new cameras on all district buses for student safety and built new outdoor shaded classrooms

Beautification: Completed beautiful new murals and collaborated on volunteer Scout projects to bring color and school spirit to life.

Whether they were high up on roofs or putting the finishing touches on fresh paint, our M&O team brought their pride and dedication to every single project.

Special thanks to our M&O team for making our schools a fantastic place to learn and grow!
