That’s a wrap! 🎉

Last week, our 2026 Citizens Academy class completed its final session and graduated. Over the past ten weeks, this outstanding group dedicated their time to learning about the criminal justice system, the work of the District Attorney’s Office, and the many partnerships that help keep our community safe.

We were honored to share this time with such an engaged and thoughtful group. Their questions, perspectives, and commitment to learning made this year’s academy a tremendous success.

Congratulations to the Citizens Academy Class of 2026! 🎓

**EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHT**
Zach started with our office as an intern and rejoined us this past October as an attorney.

He wanted to get into the legal field because he had a strong sense of fairness and never liked the idea of someone getting away with harming others. "We advocate for the victimized and help them receive justice that goes beyond just winning money.”

One of his favorite things about the office “is the collective desire to achieve our shared goal. I’ve always been able to get help, advice, or a second opinion from many people in our office, which makes the job feel like a true team effort."

Welcome back to the team Zach!

For National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we are collaborating with the YWCA Northeast Kansas and the Topeka Shawnee County anti-Human Trafficking Coalition to post facts, myths, and stats about human trafficking along with resources for people impacted by trafficking.

Human Trafficking exists on a spectrum, and it’s important to understand the spectrum of violence to work to prevent human trafficking in our community. By understanding what violent tendencies fall on this spectrum you can be better equipped to identify someone who may need help.
