In the early hours of September 11, 2001, 10 hijackers took control of American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 and flew them into the World Trade Center towers. At 9:37 a.m., five hijackers on American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. At 10:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after the crew and passengers stormed the cockpit, confronting four hijackers.

Nearly 3,000 firefighters, officers, military personnel, and citizens from more than 90 countries, including the U.S., were killed.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember—not only the lives that were lost that day, but those we continue to lose from related illnesses following the attacks.

Today, KBI agents arrested a Chanute man for child s*x crimes.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, at approximately 8:15 a.m., KBI agents served an arrest warrant for Brian W. Bollig, 55, of Chanute. Bollig was arrested near a residence at 1400 Road and Anderson Road, in Chanute. He was arrested for s*xual exploitation of a child.

The case began in June 2026, after the KBI received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children suggesting Bollig possessed child s*xual abuse material. Search warrants were executed to locate evidence.

Following his arrest, Bollig was booked into the Wilson County Jail.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This investigation remains ongoing.

KBI agents, along with the Ford County Sheriff's Office and Dodge City Police Department, conducted a search warrant today in Dodge City, Kansas, where one man was arrested.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, at around 11:50 a.m., KBI agents, sheriff's deputies and police officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of West La Mesa Drive, in Dodge City, related to an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Just before noon, Louis L. Ramey, 28, of Dodge City, was arrested for three counts of possession of co***ne with the intent to distribute, three counts of unlawful use of a communications facility to facilitate a drug transaction, and three counts of unlawful acts involving proceeds derived from violations of K.S.A. 21-5701 through 21-5717.

Following the arrest Ramey was booked into the Ford County Jail.

All suspects are presumed innocent, unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing.

KBI agents, the Kearny County Sheriff’s Office, and the Finney County Sheriff's Office are investigating a homicide that occurred in Deerfield, Kansas. A Garden City man was arrested.

On Monday, Aug. 31, at around 10:40 a.m., the Kearny County Sheriff’s Office contacted the KBI for assistance. KBI agents responded to help investigate the homicide.

At around 9:40 a.m., deputies from the Kearny County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a stabbing that occurred at a business at 2476 Road 180, in Deerfield. After the incident, Adonis Aguilar-Juarez, 32, of Lakin, Kansas, was transported by private vehicle to the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. Despite life-saving efforts, Aguilar-Juarez died from his wounds at the hospital.

Authorities identified Erlin Y. Lagos-Gonzales, 43, of Garden City, as the suspect. On Monday at 10:12 a.m., deputies with the Finney County Sheriff's Office located and arrested Lagos-Gonzales without incident. Lagos-Gonzales was arrested for second-degree murder. He was then booked into the Finney County Jail.

Formal charges are pending. All suspects are presumed innocent, unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: KBI agents and the Republic County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man connected to a home invasion and assault in Scandia, Kansas.

KBI agents arrested Jardyn J. Bartman, 32, of Scandia, in the 200 block of Washington St., in Scandia. He was arrested for aggravated burglary, r**e, and aggravated so**my. He also had an active warrant out of Riley County.

Following the arrest, Bartman was booked into the Republic County Jail.

No other suspect is being sought related to this incident. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ORIGINAL: The KBI and the Republic County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a home invasion and assault that occurred early Tuesday morning in Scandia, Kansas.

The Republic County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded.

At approximately 2:51 a.m. Tuesday, a female resident in the 400 block of Grant Street in Scandia called 911 to report that an unknown male subject had broken into her home and assaulted her.

Law enforcement is actively working to identify the suspect. The Republic County Sheriff’s Office advises area residents to remain vigilant, keep home and vehicle doors locked, and immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

Residents in the immediate vicinity are requested to review any home security or doorbell camera footage for unknown subjects or suspicious activity recorded between 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

FOUND SAFE - STATEWIDE SILVER ALERT CANCELED

The Park City Police Department reported to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) that 47-year-old Faye Marie Geary was located and is now safe. The statewide Silver Alert is canceled.

The Park City Police Department requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) issue a statewide Silver Alert for a missing Oklahoma City woman.

The whereabouts of 47-year-old Faye Marie Geary, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, are unknown and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate her.

Geary is likely driving a red Nissan Altima bearing Oklahoma tag 029237. She was last seen in Park City on Monday, Aug. 24, at approximately 7 a.m. Geary’s vehicle was last seen in Wichita near 13th Street and Clarence Avenue at approximately 6:48 p.m.

Geary is a Native American female who is around 5 foot 4 inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a navy shirt, black pants, and white shoes. Geary has Alzheimer's disease.

We are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) requested KBI assistance at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to the scene.

At approximately 12:27 a.m., KCKPD officers were initially dispatched to the 500 block of Ohio Avenue for a noise complaint. Shortly after, at approximately 12:49 a.m., officers were dispatched back to the area following a report of shots fired.

Officers encountered a male suspect, later identified as Leonel Lozoya-Esparza, 19, of Kansas City, Kansas, armed with a fi***rm. Officers issued verbal commands ordering Lozoya-Esparza to drop the weapon. Lozoya-Esparza failed to comply with officers' commands and turned toward them while holding the fi***rm.

One KCKPD officer discharged their fi***rm, striking Lozoya-Esparza.

Officers immediately attempted life-saving measures. Lozoya-Esparza succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

This independent investigation aims to discover all events leading up to the officer-involved shooting. In police use of force cases, the KBI releases details to the public as soon as possible. This information is preliminary in nature and is based on evidence collected and early statements of the parties involved, witnesses, medical personnel, and others. It does not represent final or thorough findings, which take several weeks to complete.

The investigation remains ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be presented to the Wyandotte County District Attorney for review.
