Highland Park High School, Topeka Kansas - Class of 1972 Class of 1972, Highland Park High School, Topeka, KS. The first school house was built at what is now 27th and Indiana in 1868 for $1,000.00.

Also, the first high school building was completed, south of the grade school. In May, 1917 the first high school class graduated with 8 students having comple

ted 4 years. In 1935 a large 2 story brick building was erected. About this time the girls pep club, known as the Scots Lassies was organized. The HPHS we know was built in 1951, 2 wings were added in 1956. On August 1, 1959, the Highland Park schools became part of the Topeka Public School system. The 4 year high school dropped to a 3 year in 1961, but was taken back to a 4 year in 1980. The gym was renovated in 1964 and the science wing added. We remember the building of the new gym and cafeteria (1971-72), with the library taking over the old gym. A fantastic music facility was finished in 1997.
