The Topeka Human Relations Commission (HRC) invites all community members to join them for a Holiday Posada!

The event will be held Wednesday, December 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Governor’s Row House.

The HRC will be providing food and light refreshments for attendees. There is no cost to attend.

And last, but most certainly not least, meet Commissioner Zachary Surritt!

Commissioner Surritt was born in Topeka and raised in Meriden. He's a graduate of Washburn University, where he served as a leader in a number of student organizations, including a term as the Student Body President.

He's the Chair-elect of Forge Young Talent, and is passionate about public service and working with the community to create an environment for positive change.

Meet Commissioner Alexis Simmons!

Alexis has served on the Topeka Human Relations Commission since July of 2022.

She's a Washburn University graduate, where she majored in political science and served as student body president. After graduation, she spent time in Washington, D.C., where she earned her master's, before moving back to Topeka in 2020.

Alexis is passionate about public service, and is involved in various leadership programs and organizations.

Meet Commissioner Marisol Marcelo!

Marisol has served on the Topeka Human Relations Commission since February of this year.

Though, Marisol is not a Topeka native, she has embraced it as her home and actively contributes to its vibrancy. She's an advocate for supporting local businesses and charities, and is deeply rooted in her faith.

Next up, meet Commissioner Pamela James! Commissioner James has served on the Topeka Human Relations Commission (HRC) since September of 2022.

Commissioner James is a Kansas native, who moved to Topeka in 2010. She is passionate about helping people and the community become the best they can be. This is evident in her role as a State of Kansas employee, and her work with community organizations like the HRC.

Her passions for education and volunteerism are prevalent in her profession as a teacher, and in her community service roles. She recently graduated with a Masters of Educational Leadership at Kansas State University.

He holds two degrees in Human Services and has a BA in Criminal Justice. Luc actively engages in advocating for the LGBTQ+ community, with a special focus on supporting trans people of color.
