El Centro of Topeka A Catholic social service organization established to serve the least among us.

In 1972, a Catholic priest by the name of Father Ramon Gaitan was sent to be the new priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Topeka, Kansas. Father Ramon had a passion for serving the least among us, especially our immigrant brothers and sisters. When he wasn't attending to the many duties as a priest, Father Ramon worked diligently to help those in need in our community. Over the years Father R

amon increased the time he spent serving families in need until he realized he needed help. That is when he established El Centro with the help of community members to serve the least among us. Today we continue to strive to keep the spirit of service that Father Ramon exemplified.

Tonight we celebrated 5 incredible Pedro Cerca Scholarship recipients as they prepare for their next chapter.

Family, friends, donors, and community members came together to uplift and encourage this outstanding group of young people. Their stories reflect the strength, sacrifice, and hope found in immigrant families throughout our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these scholarships possible and for investing in the future of our students.

Esta noche celebramos a 5 increíbles estudiantes becados de la Beca Pedro Cerca mientras se preparan para comenzar una nueva etapa en sus vidas.

Familiares, amigos, donadores y miembros de la comunidad se reunieron para apoyar y reconocer a este destacado grupo de jóvenes. Sus historias reflejan la fortaleza, el sacrificio y la esperanza que viven las familias inmigrantes de nuestra comunidad.

El Centro will be closed Monday, May 25th in observation of Memorial Day, and will be closed through Monday, June 1st. El Centro staff will be attending an immigration conference. We will reopen on Tuesday, June 2nd at 9am. We apologize for any inconvenience.

El Centro estara cerrado el lunes 25 de mayo en conmemoración del Día de los Caídos (Memorial Day), y continuará cerrado hasta el lunes 1 de junio. The Pedro Cerca Scholarship was created to support immigrant students and children of immigrants who are ready to take the next step toward college, technical school, a new career.

If you’ve worked hard, overcome challenges, and dream of doing more—you are exactly who this scholarship is for.
