Kansas weather doesn't give much warning, and neither do most emergencies. National Preparedness Month is a good nudge to get your family's plan in place before you need it.

Talk through where to meet if you're separated, keep a written list of emergency contacts somewhere your kids can find it, and put together a simple kit with water, snacks, and any medications your family needs. None of this takes long to set up, and it gives kids a sense of steadiness when things feel uncertain.

Labor Day is all about celebrating the workforce, and the best way to honor hard work is to take a real break from it. So to celebrate, our team is fully committing to the cause by penciling some cat naps into our schedules this weekend.

A quick heads-up: The office is closed on Monday, September 7th. We will be back on Tuesday, September 8th — recharged, refreshed, and ready to get to work.

Volunteer Spotlight: The Heart of Our Mission 💙

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on someone whose dedication to our organization is truly beyond measure.

Since 2009, Julie Clanton has been both a valued volunteer and a member of our board. Trying to quantify the hours she has given us over the years would be nearly impossible—and honestly, it wouldn’t capture the impact of her service anyway.

She goes above and beyond, not only for our mission, but for our staff, too. She is the person who steps in, lends a hand, finds a way, and keeps showing up. She never says no; she just shows up.

Her commitment, compassion, and willingness to serve have made an immeasurable difference to our organization and the people we serve. We are incredibly grateful for all she does, all she has done, and all the ways she continues to make our mission stronger.

This map from the National Children’s Alliance shows the population of children under age 18 across Kansas by county, alongside the locations of Children’s Advocacy Centers. The darker the shading, the greater the number of children living in that county.

At LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center, we know that behind every number on a map is a child who deserves to be heard, believed, and supported.
