General information
Topanga State Park, located mostly within the city of Los Angeles, is 11,500 acres in size, and is considered the world’s largest wildland within the boundaries of a major city. The park’s steep topography and vast expanse of canyons and ridgelines offer recreational activities for hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians. The park features 50 miles of trails amid chaparral, coastal sage scrub, coast live oaks, and open grasslands. Many trails have spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Topanga State Park is a landscape shaped not only by its underlying natural history but also by its rich and diverse cultural history. Some of the earliest known areas of human habitation in California were established here thousands of years ago. Topanga State Park is the eleventh largest of California’s state parks and is one of three large state parks within the boundaries of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. We invite you to visit and experience the wonder of this wild area within an urban setting!
